2019 MLB Playoff Props

This past holiday season before the calendar turned to 2019 I suggested that all indications pointed to the Philadelphia Phillies being movers and shakers in the free agent market. In addition I suggested that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the front office make moves on a number of the biggest names. In a nutshell spend a fraction of owner John Middleton’s money. Thus offering the Philly Fanatic fan base the chance to earn their first postseason berth since 2011. 2019 MLB Playoff Props: Phillies sign Bryce.

Late last year the club stepped up and signed Jean Segura and Andrew McCutchen. At that point the baseball was rolling. In addition the club inked the likes of Gregono Petit, Trevor Plouffe, David Roberston, do-everything Andrew Romine and today the pièce de résistance in Bryce Harper.

Baseball is alive and well in Philly

By paying and inking Harper and making him the richest free agent in the history of Major League Baseball the expectations of the rest of the club is now exaggerated. And with that will come a quick following by Vegas and Offshore Sportsbooks making adjustments to their plethora of MLB Futures.

Harper’s 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies will keep him in the National League East, where he spent the past seven seasons. The hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park dimensions will see Harper’s current 184 home runs at pitcher-friendly Nationals Park look puny in the next five years. However, the home runs are just an appetizer before the Philadelphia fan base demand their main course (playoff berth) followed by dessert (World Series appearance).

Philadelphia promised their base they would be active in the trade and free agent market this winter.  The ownership and front office lived up to the offseason talk.

Harper adds star power to a team that has already headed into the Spring Training with postseason aspirations.  In turn the then-aspirations have now morphed into expectations.

A ticket to watch Harper, Aaron Nola, Maikel Franco, Segura, McCutchen and the rest of the squad just doubled… no tripled in price.

Lastly Harper not only brings a bat to CBP he brings an arrogant demeanor that is a perfect fit to the nature of the Philly beast.
