Chicago Fire saw their undefeated streak come to an end over the weekend, when they met a tough loss on the road. They will now look to bounce back on Wednesday, when they will play host to Philadelphia. Philadelphia are also coming off a bad loss, and are still struggling with consistency issues. Both teams are sitting just outside the playoff spots in the East, so this is going to be a really crucial battle.

Spread: Chicago Fire -0.25

Total: 3 Goals

Chicago Fire (6-8-5) will surely be feeling hard-done about the outcome of their away match agianst Vancouver. They were not good in the first half but went in the break tied at 1-1. Chicago conceded two more goals in the second half despite being the better team in the pitch. They did score a consolation goal at the end but ended up losing by 2-3. That loss put an end to their seven-match undefeated streak in all competitions (3-0-4). Chicago have now dropped out of the playoff spots, sitting at the 7th spot with 23 points. They are one behind the Red Bulls and two ahead of Philadelphia. Chicago haven’t been very good on the road so far (4-4-2), but have lost just one of their last five there (3-1-1).

On the other hand, Philadelphia Union (6-9-3) were also defeated in their last match, when they hosted Atlanta United. They were actually much better in the first half but the two teams were tied at the half time whistle. Atlanta were only slightly better in the second half but took the lead with a penalty kick at the 58th minute. They doubled that just 18 minutes laterfor the final 2-0. Philadelphia have now lost three of their last five. They are sitting at the 8th spot of the Eastern Conference with 21 points, three behind Montreal and the playoff spots. They have been pathetic on the road so far (1-6-1), where they have scored a mere 4 goals. Moreover, they have conceded at least twice in five of those matches.

There has been total balance between the two teams over the years (8-8-5). This will be the second match of the season between the two, with Philadelphia having won by 1-3 at home. But Chicago have been dominant as hosts against Philadelphia (6-2-3), having won each of the last four here.

Chicago have been in really good shape lately, despite coming off that loss against Vancouver. They will be really interested in a win here that could put them back inside the playoff spots. Philadelphia are struggling with consistency issues all season, and they have generally been pretty weak on the road. I will take Chicago to cover the spread here.
