Atlanta United played a really balanced match in the Eastern Conference semi-finals against Philadelphia at home. They took an early lead at the 10th minute with Gressel but it was a really balanced match. Philadelphia created as many chances as Atlanta, but it was Josef Martinez who scored another goal at the 80th minute for the final 0-2. That was the third consecutive win for Atlanta United, who have been great in the past six weeks (5-1-1). Atlanta United had the best home record in the Eastern Conference with 39 points in 17 matches (12-2-3). But they kept just two clean sheets in their last eight home matches in all competitions.
On the other hand, Toronto FC played a really two-faced match against New York City in the previous round. They pretty much dominated their opponents in the first half but were unable to score. They did take the lead at the start of the second, but their opponents pressured them really hard. New York City pulled even at the 69th minute and pushed for a winning goal. But Toronto FC scored a late penalty kick for the final 2-1 and the qualification to the Conference Finals. Toronto were not anything special on the road this season (4-6-7) and won just one of their last five away matches (1-1-3).
The two teams exchanged home wins in the regular season, with Atlanta winning here by 0-2 before falling by 2-3 on the road. There has never been a visitors win in six matches between the two over the years. Toronto have the upper hand (2-1-3), while five of the matches featured goals from both sides and at least four goals each. Toronto know they will have to score here in order to have qualifying chances, and this match could easily feature at least three goals.
