Dallas visits Charlotte on Wednesday night with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. ET tip at the Spectrum Center. The Mavericks have had their way with the Hornets recently winning 10 of the last 12 contests. Heading into Tuesday night’s action Dallas has lost three straight while Charlotte has won three of their last four with wins at Golden State and in California against Sacramento and LA Lakers. NBA Free Pick: Mavericks at Hornets.
The Hornets (-6) are finally healthy and a large number of their key player personnel have worked their way into game shape. Evidence of such has seen the squad win on the road against quality competition. Charlotte is, however, just 10-10 as a host this season. The pedestrian mark on their home court is largely due to injuries and strength of schedule. Five of the Hornets losses at the Spectrum Center this season have come against playoff contenders. Versus Cleveland, San Antonio, Golden State, Toronto and Boston.
Charlotte’s 15-23 overall record so far this season is deceptive. The Hornets underlying peripherals and adjusted numbers make them a .500 club. Charlotte rests in the middle of the league-pack in points per game and points allowed. The first rotation of Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams and Dwight Howard are supported by Jeremy Lamb, Frank Kaminsky and Michael Carter-Williams.
Dallas has been competitive recently after a slow start to the season. They have lost by a total of 10 points in their current three-game slide. The franchises aging roster is beginning to struggle to compete against younger and deeper benches. Defensively the Mavericks have allowed an average of 117 points per game during their losing streak. The last two losses and poor defensive efforts have come against losing clubs, New York and Chicago.
Charlotte’s offseason addition of center Dwight Howard has paid dividends. Howard has 21 double-doubles in 38 games this season.
This Wednesday night Association event offers the Hornets several advantages. Charlotte hasn’t played since last Friday in a win over the Lakers at the Staples Center while Dallas is playing the second leg of a back-to-back. The Mavericks are 2-5 straight up in the second leg of a back-to-back.
Dallas is also 1-12 ATS in their last 13 games when playing a team with a winning percentage of .399 or lower.
The well rested and healthy Hornets are younger, more talented and have a deeper bench than their opponent on Wednesday night. Dallas’ second game in two nights and fourth in six days make them a play-against at the Spectrum Center.
