The Kings visit the Timberwolves for a Sunday night National Basketball Association event scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. ET. Minnesota aims to win their 13th straight at the Target Center against a new-look Sacramento squad. NBA Free Pick: Sacramento at Minnesota.
When accessing the Minnesota Timberwolves (-13, 212) one only needs to look at their home and away dichotomy. Minnesota has won 12 home games in a row and lost 10 of 11 on the road. Overall the ‘Wolves are 22-6 at home and 12-18 as visitors this season.
The Kings own the worst record (17-37) in Western Conference and have committed to playing their young players. Sacramento traded veteran point guard George Hill to Cleveland at Thursday’s trade deadline and will offer rookie point guard De’Aaron Fox the keys to the team’s offense for the rest of the 2017-18 campaign.
In addition the Kings traded Malachi Richardson while and waiving Georgios Papagiannis since the coaching staff decided to go full steam ahead with their youth. For the remainder of the season Sacramento will focus on offering minutes to Fox, wings Buddy Hield, and Bogdan Bogdanovic and leaving the paint to frontcourt player personnel Willie Cauley-Stein and Skal Labisserie.
“This is the part of the season where you want to put it in the fifth or sixth gear with the young guys,” general manager Vlade Divac told the Sacramento Bee. “Let them go.”
The Timberwolves are at full strength as they head into the All-Star break. The Kings are damaged goods. Sacramento is without F Harry Giles, F Skal Labissiere and PG Frank Mason. G Iman Shumpert isn’t 100 percent and is questionable tonight and the team won’t active veteran G Joe Johnson who was recently acquired in their trade deadline dealings.
All-Star guard Jimmy Butler has returned from injury with vengeance. Butler has scored at least 30 points in each of the last three games and is averaging 34.3 in the trio of events. Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has threatened to sit any player who is not committed to not giving 100 percent on every play. Thibodiau told the Chicago media after the loss to the Bulls. “When you do that, we messed around, we played with fire and we got burned.”.
The Kings are defensively inept with the young group they are giving significant minutes to. Rookie floor general Fox surrendered 50-points to Trail Blazers sharpshooter Damian Lillard on Friday night.
The All-Star filled Minnesota lineup will be focused for tonight’s event against Sacramento. They currently hold a two-game lead over second place Portland in the Northwest Division.
How serious is the Timberwolves coaching staff at keeping the squad spot-on-focused?
Coach Thibodiau was T’d up in the fourth quarter of the team’s loss to the Bulls on Friday night. Thibodeau drew a technical foul for yelling at his own player.
The Kings are a poor 3-12 ATS in their last 15 against home teams that average 109 points per game or more on the season. Sacramento is 3-15 ATS in their last 18 contests against the Western Conference. And the young group is rarely good on Sunday’s that are for the most part out of sorts with the normal weekly Association routine. The Kings 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games.
The Timberwolves are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games versus teams with a road winning percentage of .499 or less and have been money on the Target Center hardwood cashing at a 10-1 clip ATS in their last 11 home affairs.
