Since the trade deadline the Clippers have morphed into a different team with a different style of play. Coach Doc Rivers is utilizing his young backcourt in combination with his veterans to be a smaller lineup playing with at tempo. The pseudo four-guard lineup along with forward Montrezl Harrell is the rotation that has produced the most positive results on both ends of the court.
The coaching staff for the Clippers still primarily rely on sixth man Lou Williams for major minutes hasn’t and won’t change. Williams netted 21 points along with 10 assists for his second double-double in four games, his seventh of the season resulting in double-digit victory for the Clips over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night.
Jazz coach Quin Snyder has made rotational changes along with scheme adjustments since the All Star break. Utah is executing their offense in a more deliberate fashion. Synder has directed his backcourt, including shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, to value possessions. The results have been positive. Michell scored 25 points in Saturday’s 125-109 home win over the Dallas Mavericks and Utah committed just seven turnovers.
Center Rudy Gobert will be the focus for the Jazz tonight, especially when the Clippers go small. Gobert had 23 points and 22 rebounds in a 129-109 rout of the Clippers on Jan. 16. Gobert collected 15 points and 12 rebounds against Dallas for his seventh straight double-double and 48th of the season
The free pick is a play UNDER the TOTAL of 227 in Salt Lake City tonight as Utah controls tempo along with their typical tough nosed defense.
