In this all-Western showdown, two teams with playoff hopes for the season but both sitting outside the top-8 are clashing tonight, when the Memphis Grizzlies (8-17), are hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder (11-13), with both teams looking to bounce back after defeats in their latest matchups.
Date/Time: 12-09-2017, 21:00 EDT
Spread: Memphis Grizzlies +3.5
Grizzlies have an 8-17 record (8-16-1 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the third to last place of the West. They are struggling mightily, having lost 13 of their last 14 matches and in their last game they lost at home against Toronto with a 107-116 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Marc Gasol with 18.9 ppg, adding a team high 8.8 rebounds. He is followed by Tyreke Evans with 18 ppg, while Mike Conley is still out with an injury.
Thunder have an 11-13 record (8-16 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 9th place of the West. In their last game they saw a three-game winning streak getting snapped by losing on the road with a 95-100 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Russell Westbrook with 22.9 ppg, adding team highs both in rebounds with 9.2 per game and in assists, with 9.7 per game. He is followed by Paul George with 20.7 ppg and 5.8 rebounds, while Carmelo Anthony adds 18.1 ppg and 6.5 rebounds.
In their four meetings last season, Thunder led the Grizzlies 3-1 wins and they were 1-1 in Memphis. Grizzlies are 5-9 at home, while Thunder are 2-9 on the road. Thunder are better both offensively, scoring 101.8 ppg to Grizzlies’ third-worse of 98.1 and defensively, allowing a third-best 98.9 ppg to Grizzlies’ 101.6. Grizzlies on the other hand have better percentages both in field goals, shooting with 44.8% to Thunder’s 43.9% and in 3-pointers, shooting with 34.1% to Thunder’s third-worse of 33.8%. Thunder are better in rebounding, grabbing 43.4 to Grizzlies’ second-worse of 38.6, while Grizzlies are better in turnovers committed (14.3 to 15.3) and both teams are almost equal in assists made (21 to 20.8). Grizzlies are on a free fall without Mike Conley and Vegas odds give Thunder a -3.5 spread and expect them to beat those odds for the road victory tonight.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Memphis Grizzlies Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder -3.5 (-110)
