In this battle between two teams sitting on opposite sides of their respective conference, the second-worse in the East New York Liberty (7-21), who want to end a lengthy losing streak, are hosting the second-best in the West Los Angeles Sparks (17-11), who are looking to extend a small winning streak of their own.

Date/Time: 08-08-2018 19:00 EDT

Spread: New York Liberty +9

Total: +155

New York Liberty have a 7-21 record (10-18 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the second to last place of the East and of the whole league. They have seven consecutive losses and in their last game they lost at home against the Seattle Storm with an 80-96 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Tina Charles with 19.6 ppg, adding a team high 7.2 boards per game. She is followed by Kia Nurse with 8.8 ppg, while Bria Harley adds 8.5 ppg and 3.7 dimes per game.

Los Angeles Sparks have a 17-11 record (14-14 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the second place of the West. They have back-to-back wins and in their last game they won at home against the Phoenix Mercury with a 78-75 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Candace Parker with 18.1 ppg, adding a team high 7.9 boards and 4.9 dimes per game. She is followed by Nneka Ogwumike with 15.9 ppg and 7.3 boards per game, while Chelsea Gray adds 14.9 ppg and a team high 5.4 dimes per game.

In their previous meeting earlier this season, the Sparks won at home with an 80-54 score. New York are 4-11 at home this season, while Los Angeles are 7-5 on the road. Los Angeles are better both offensively, scoring 79.4 ppg to New York’s second-worse of 78 and they also have the best defense in the league, allowing 76.7 ppg to New York’s second-worse of 84.9. They also have better percentages both in field goals (46.4% to 43.1%) and in 3-pointers (34.7% to 32%). New York on the other hand are better both in rebounding (33.4 to 30.8) and in assists made (19.8 to 18.8), while Los Angeles commit fewer turnovers per game (12.4 to 14.8). Los Angeles are the absolute favorite and Vegas odds give them a -9 spread and expect them to beat the odds for the easy road victory.
