Celtics vs Nets Game 3 Betting Preview

The Gold Sheet offers their NBA betting preview for Friday night’s Eastern Conference playoff showdown between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn’s “Big 3” has been in-and-out of the lineup all year, but certainly seems to be hitting their stride with the playoffs underway. Is there anything Boston can do to slow them down?

Watching Milwaukee dismantle Miami in Thursday’s night’s Game 3 to take what looks like an unassailable 3-0 lead in that series, we are tempted to think the same about this Nets-Celtics matchup. Which proceeded much like Bucks-Heat in the first two games, with a more-competitive affair in the opener followed by a home favorite romp in Game 3. As was Miami in its series, Boston was hit with an early haymaker in Game 2 and never recovered. The question is if the Celtics will continue as dazed in their Game 3 as the Heat looked last night. It will help if Boston is nearer full- strength (it won’t be at full capacity throughout the playoffs with second-leading scorer Jaylen Brown sidelined after wrist surgery), which effectively means the availabilities of Jayson Tatum (left in 3rd Q of Game 2 after poked in eye) and Kemba Walker (bruised knee).

As of Friday morning, sources say Tatum appears a “go” for tonight with Walker likely a game-time decision. Brad Stevens is probably going to need both to keep pace with Brooklyn, with the Big 3 hitting stride after playing just their tenth game of the season together in Game 2, combining for 61 points in Tuesday’s 130-108 romp. It was more like the Big 4 for Steve Nash in Game 2, with F Joe Harris erupting for 25 points including a Steph Curry-like seven triples.

The Nets, however, are not playing at Barclays Center on Friday, and even though they haven’t had Kyrie, KD, and Harden together again until recently, have still lost 6 of their last 11 on the road. Tatum has also been a thorn in Brooklyn’s side, scoring 30 ppg against the Nets in regular-season games, and a good bet to improve upon his 28% FG shooting thus far in the series (providing, of course, he can see clearly). There will also be fans in TD Garden, which can’t hurt the Celtics and makes for an interesting situation with Kyrie returning to The Hub for the first time since leaving town after the 2018-19 campaign. Still, we can do no better than a provisional recommendation on the Celtics without knowing Walker’s status. A better option might be “under” which cashed in the first four meetings this season before Game 2, and five straight overall for Boston before Tuesday’s loss. Play Nets-Celtics “Under”
