Brooklyn Nets vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction
When referring to the first meeting back on Feb. 27 at Barclays Center, remember that the Nets were minus two of their Big 3 (Kyrie Irving & Kevin Durant), and James Harden’s 29 points were not enough to overcome the near full-strength Mavs, who rolled 109-95. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis combined for 45 points in a game Dallas never trailed. Now Kyrie & KD are available and Harden (hamstring) isn’t, as Steve Nash wonders how soon he might be able to give his trio of stars a few dress rehearsals together before the playoffs begin after they have been on the court with one another in only seven games this term. (That might be asking much, with Harden reportedly suffering another setback in his rehab earlier this week…stay tuned.)
Current NBA Odds on the Nets vs Mavericks: Brooklyn -3.5 | o/u 234.5
Dallas, not 100%, either, with Porzingis back on the shelf with knee problems, though Mavs have won 3 of their last 4 without him, including a rousing 127-113 win at Miami on Tuesday when Doncic scored 23 the real star was Tim Hardaway, Jr., who hit a Steph Curry-like 10 triples en route to 36 points. After recently scoring 42 vs. the Pistons, we shouldn’t discount Hardaway from doing excessive damage again. What might concern Dallas HC Rick Carlisle more than anything is if the Sacramento Kings show up in place of the Nets; the Mavs have won their last 7 games vs. teams not named Sacto, which has beaten Dallas three times since mid-April, and enough perhaps to prompt an explanation from Jen Psaki at the next White House press briefing.
Brooklyn should be hungry after three straight losses have dropped it behind Philly in the race for the East’s top seed, but off of two emotionally draining games vs. the Bucks, not sure the Nets can win this expected shootout vs. a Dallas side hellbent to avoid falling into play-in territory in the West postseason queue.
