Miami Heat at Boston Celtics Pick and Preview

The Miami Heat (38-38) currently sit eighth in the Eastern Conference playoff race with six games remaining on their schedule. They’ll be on the road against the Boston Celtics (45-32) before traveling back to Miami to take on the Celtics once again on Wednesday. Boston is -6 ½  for this game on Monday night (updated NBA Odds).

Huge Game for the Heat

The Heat continue to battle for a playoff spot and every game will matter in order to hold off the Orlando Magic who trail Miami by half a game. The Heat could also see themselves move up in the standings if things go their way. They trail the seventh place Brooklyn Nets by half a game, and then the sixth place Pistons by a full game. The good news for Heat fans is that Miami has played better on the road this year (20-17) than they have at home (18-21).

Miami took the first meeting against the Celtics this season 115-99 on Jan. 10. Boston got their revenge in the second meeting on Jan. 21, winning 107-99. So far, the home teams have been victorious in the season series. Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 19 points in the first game against Boston and Heat fans would love nothing more than one last playoff run with the future hall of famer.

The Heat enter Monday on a two-game winning streak after defeating the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks. Goran Dragic scored a team-high 23 points against the Mavericks and Dion Waiters dropped 28 to lead them over the Knicks on Saturday. Erik Spoelstra continues to do a phenomenal job with this Heat team that many people felt would be rebuilding this year. What the Eastern Conference has proven once again is that you can have an average record and still make the playoffs.

Boston Looking to Get Back on Track

The Celtics have hit a rough patch losing six of their last 10 games. Their last game ended in a 110-96 loss to the Nets on Saturday.D’Angelo Russell’s 29 points and 10 assists were too much for Boston, who was without starting point guard Kyrie Irving. Gordon Hayward led the Celtics with 19 points and six rebounds off the bench. Marcus Morris scored 16 points and Daniel Theis tacked on 16 off the bench.

The Celtics have already clinched their spot in the playoffs. They’ll end up either the fourth or fifth seed and take on the Indiana Pacers in the first round either way.

Celtics Smack Miami

Jayson Tatum played 30 minutes against the Nets, shooting 4 of 9 with just nine points for the Celtics. It was an opportunity for Tatum to lead his team with starters Al Horford and Irving sidelined. There was a lot of hype and high expectations surrounding head coach Brad Stevens and the Celtics this season. For a roster that is loaded with talent it just doesn’t seem like fourth place is good enough, even though it’s still a playoff spot. Rumors surround Irving and whether or not he’ll return to Boston after the offseason. For now, Boston will take it one game at a time and if there’s one team that could get hot and make a run in the playoffs it’s the Celtics. Look for the Celtics to start their solid play with a blowout win at home in this game. Bet the Celtics.
