NBA Preview and Free Pick: Boston Celtics vs. Milwaukee Bucks
The NBA returns from its lengthy All-Star break with five games on the docket this evening. The top
matchup of the evening features two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference as the Boston Celtics
will head to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks.
Date/Time/TV: Thur. Feb.21, 8:00 PM EST, TNT
Spread: Milwaukee Bucks -5.5 (-110)
The Celtics entered the break having won their last two in a row. The team is in 4th place in the east
with a record of 37-21 (30-28 ATS). They’re currently 6.5 games behind the Bucks for the
conference lead, but just 1-game behind the 3rd place Indiana Pacers.
The Bucks also won their final two in advance of the break. The team occupies the top spot in the
east with a mark of 43-14 (34-20-3 ATS). Milwaukee is 1-game in front of the 2nd place Toronto
Raptors, and 5.5 games up on the Pacers.
Boston won their last two games without the services of Kyrie Irving, who was out with a knee
injury. Irving is probable for tonight’s game. The Celtics are 7-3 (5-5 ATS) over their last 10, but
they have struggled on the road this season at 14-13 (11-16 ATS).
Team totals have hit the Over for three of the last four and lean that way for the season at 34-24.
Irving tops the team in scoring. He’s averaging 23.6 ppg and 6.9 dimes. Jayson Tatum contributes
16.5 ppg, while Al Horford leads the way in rebounds with 6.8.
Milwaukee cruised into the break with a mark of 8-2 (8-2 ATS) over its last 10 games and having
won eight of the previous nine. Seven of those contests took place on the road. The team has been
really strong at home this season at 23-5 (17-10-1 ATS).
Team totals are in the middle at 27-30, but the Under was the correct call for the last three. MVP
candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo leads the way in the major statistical categories. He’s averaging
27.2 ppg, 12.7 rpg, and 6.0 apg. Khris Middleton is contributing 17.1 ppg and 5.8 boards.
Celtics vs. Bucks Prediction
This will be the third meeting of the season for these two clubs. They have split the first two. Last
time out in December, the Bucks picked up a 120-107 road victory as 1.5-point favorites. The teams
are deadlocked at 5-5 for their last 10 meetings. Totals are 7-3 over that span, with the Over coming
in for the last three in a row.
Milwaukee is a 5.5-point favorite tonight on the home court where they have played exceptionally
well this season. We expect that trend to continue and are looking for the hosts to win and cover as
they kick of the stretch run.
