NBA Preview and Free Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. New Orleans Pelicans
There are just three games on the NBA docket tonight as the league gets ready for a lengthy All-Star
break. The featured matchup is a nationally televised affair which will see the Oklahoma City
Thunder hit the road to take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
Date/Time/TV: Thur. Feb.14, 8:00 PM EST, TNT
Spread: Oklahoma City Thunder -5 (-110)
The Thunder have been playing exceptionally well as they get ready for some time off. The team has
won four in a row, including a 9-point home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. For
the season, the club is 37-19 (33-23 ATS). Oklahoma City is in 3rd place in the Western Conference,
3.5 games back of the conference leading Golden State Warriors.
The Pelicans have lost two in a row and resemble a team whose season may be slipping away. On
Tuesday, the club was crushed at home by the Orlando Magic to the tune of 118-88. New Orleans is
in 13th place in the west with a mark of 25-33 (27-30-1 ATS). The club is currently 6.5 games back
in the race for the conference’s #8 seed.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Oklahoma City is a sizzling 9-1 (8-2 ATS) over its last 10 games. Over the recent four-game run, the
team’s lowest margin of victory was eight points. The Thunder have been above average on the road
with a mark of 17-12 (17-12 ATS) thus far.
Team totals stand at 29-27, with the Under coming in for the last three. Russell Westbrook has been
on fire. He has dropped 10 straight triple-doubles and averages 21.1 ppg, 11.1 boards, and 11.2 apg
for the season. Paul George tops the team in scoring with 28.7 ppg.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans is just 3-7 (6-4 ATS) over its last 10. The team has played relatively well at home with
a record of 16-11 (13-14 ATS) to date. Team totals have been Under for five of the last seven and
check in at 30-28 on the season.
Anthony Davis informed the team of his wish to take his talents elsewhere before the trade deadline,
but he’s still in town. He’s averaging 28.5 ppg and 13.1 rpg, but he’s coming in off of a miserable
game versus the Magic in which he dropped a whopping 3 points while shooting 1 of 9 from the
field. Jrue Holiday is averaging 20.9 ppg and 8.0 dimes.
Thunder vs. Pelicans Prediction
The Thunder are 1-1 versus the Pelicans this season, and they have won three of the last four in this
series. Totals are 6-4 for the last 10 meetings of these two squads. Perhaps the Pelicans will show
some more signs of life tonight, but we don’t see that making a difference versus a club that’s rolling.
The visitors win and cover.
