In this battle between two squads sitting on opposite sides of the Western Conference table, the second Denver Nuggets (42-19), looking to bounce back after their latest rare defeat, are hosting the third-worse New Orleans Pelicans (28-36), who on the other hand want to turn their latest victory into a streak.
Date/Time: 03-02-2019, 21:00 EDT
Spread: Denver Nuggets -13.5
Denver Nuggets have a 42-19 record (33-28 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the second place of the West. In their last game they saw a five-game winning streak getting snapped by losing at home against the Jazz with a 104-111 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by by Nikola Jokic with 20.6 ppg, adding team highs both in dimes made with 7.7 and in boards grabbed with 10.8 per game. He is followed by Jamal Murray with 18.2 ppg, 4.3 boards and 4.9 dimes per game.
New Orleans Pelicans have a 28-36 record (31-32-1 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the third to last place of the West. In their last game they snapped a two-game losing streak by winning on the road against the Suns with a 130-116 score, beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Anthony Davis with 27.3 ppg, adding 4.1 dimes and a team high 12.4 boards per game. He is followed by Jrue Holiday with 21 ppg, 5.1 boards and a team high 7.9 dimes per game.
In their three previous meetings earlier this season the Nuggets lead the Pelicans 2-1 wins, having won the previous game at home by 5 points. Nuggets have a 27-5 home record, while the Pelicans are 10-24 on the road. Pelicans are better offensively, scoring 115.9 ppg to Nuggets’ 112.2, while Nuggets are better defensively, allowing 107 ppg to Pelicans’ 115.1. Pelicans have a better field goal percentage (47.8% to 47%), while Nuggets have a better 3-point percentage (35.6% to 34.6%). Both teams are very close in boards grabbed (47.2 to 46.9), while Nuggets are better in dimes made (27.7 to 27) and in turnovers committed (13.1 to 14.2). Nuggets are the absolute favorite at home and Vegas odds give them a -13.5 spread, but don’t expect them to beat the odds as the Pelicans will force a closer game than that.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Denver Nuggets Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans +13.5 (-109)
