NBA Preview and Game Prediction
Oklahoma City and New Orleans square off in a Western Conference contest to close out the first-half of the 2018-19 National Basketball Association season. Tip is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET at the Smoothie King Center in the Big Easy.
OKC All Star point guard Russell Westbrook is the league “Triple-Double King” and aims to extend his record setting run of triple-doubles to 11 tonight in New Orleans. Westbrook registered 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in Monday’s 120-111 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The performance outdistanced the late Wilt Chamberlain’s record of nine straight triple-doubles in 1968.
Arguably the second most qualified squad in the West, behind the Golden State Warriors and ahead of the team with the second best record in the Conference Denver, is the hottest team in the league. Oklahoma City has won four straight and 11 of their last 12 overall.
All Star shooting forward Paul George netted 47 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while dishing out 10 dimes in the win against Portland. It is pointless to argue that the chemistry between Westbrook and George is light-years better than a year ago when Carmello Anthony was a part of the first rotation.
And while the Thunder are not statistically as efficient on the defensive end of the floor as they have been in years past they have a Top-Five “Adjusted Defensive Efficiency” ratings in the entire league.
Since All Star center Anthony Davis announced he wanted out of “The Easy” the team has been inconsistent, at best, and have been a disappointment for most of the 2018-19 campaign. Davis, who requested a trade but wasn’t dealt prior to last Thursday’s deadline, has played only 24 minutes against the Magic in his third game since being told he would remain with the team for the rest of the season.
The current player personnel have dealt poorly with the Davis distraction. Furthermore head coach Alvin Gentry told the media he was tired of having to address the situation. “Whatever our new normal is, we want to get back to that and put all the other stuff behind us and just start playing and trying to win basketball games, and trying to compete and try to get our young players better,” Gentry stated. “That’s all I want to do. That’s it. And I’m not going to talk about it anymore. I’m done talking about it.”
The Thunder are in line to win three of this season’s four contests against New Orleans. The Pelicans will need another 44 points from Davis to keep this close. A number he scored the last time New Orleans defeated the Thunder.
