In the second Game 1 of today’s Western Conference quarterfinals, the second-seeded Denver Nuggets (54-28), looking to turn their latest victory into a streak, are hosting the seventh-seeded San Antonio Spurs (48-34), who are entering the postseason hot having lost only once in their last 5 games.

Date/Time: 04-13-2019, 22:30 EDT

Spread: Denver Nuggets -6

Total: +213.5

Denver Nuggets finished the regular season with a 54-28 record (42-40 against the spread) and were placed second in the West. In their last game they snapped a two-game losing streak by winning at home against the Timberwolves with a 99-95 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Nikola Jokic with 20 ppg, adding team highs both in dimes made with 7.2 and in boards grabbed with 10.8 per game. He is followed by Jamal Murray with 18.2 ppg, 4.2 boards and 4.8 dimes per game.

San Antonio Spurs finished the regular season with a 48-34 record (43-37-2 against the spread) and were placed 7th in the West. They have won four of their last five matches and in their last game they won at home against the Mavericks with a 105-94 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by LaMarcus Aldridge with 21.3 ppg, adding a team high 9.2 boards per game. He is followed by DeMar DeRozan with 21.2 ppg, 6 boards and a team high 6.2 dimes per game.

In their four previous meetings in the regular season both teams were tied 2-2 wins with each team having won at home (Nuggets won by an average of 20.5 points). Nuggets have a league-best 34-7 home record, while the Spurs are 16-25 on the road. Spurs are better offensively, scoring 111.7 ppg to Nuggets’ 110.7 ppg, while Nuggets are better defensively, allowing 106.9 ppg to Spurs’ 110. Spurs have better percentages both in field goals (47.8% to 46.6%) and in 3-pointers (39.2% to 35.1%). Nuggets on the other hand are better in boards grabbed (46.4 to 44.7) and in dimes made (27.4 to 24.5), while Spurs are better in turnovers committed (11.8 to 12.9). Nuggets are the favorite at home but Vegas odds give them a -6 spread and don’t expect them to beat the odds as the hot and experienced Spurs will definitely force a closer game than that.
