In this all-Western showdown between two squads sitting in and out of the playoff places of the West, the Minnesota Timberwolves (29-34), who have won only once in their last 5 games, are hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder (39-24), who saw a winning streak end and are looking to bounce back tonight.
Date/Time: 03-05-2019, 20:00 EDT
Spread: Minnesota Timberwolves -2
Minnesota Timberwolves have a 29-34 record (32-31 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the 11th place of the West. They have lost four of their last five matches and in their last game they lost on the road against the Wizards with a 121-135 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Karl-Anthony Towns with 23.9 ppg, adding a team high 12.3 boards per game. He is followed by Derrick Rose with 18.2 ppg and 4.5 dimes per game.
Oklahoma City Thunder have a 39-24 record (33-30 against the spread) so far this season and are currently tied with the Blazers in the third place of the West. In their last game they snapped a four-game losing streak by winning at home against the Grizzlies with a 99-95 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Paul George with 28.6 ppg, adding 8.1 boards and 4.3 dimes per game but he is out with an injury. He is followed by Russell Westbrook with 22.4 ppg, adding team highs both in boards grabbed with 11.2 and in dimes made with 10.8 per game.
Wolves have won both previous meetings against the Thunder this season, both on the road and by an average of 2 points. Wolves have a 20-10 home record, while the Thunder are 17-15 on the road. Thunder are better both offensively, scoring 115.2 ppg to Wolves’ 112.6 ppg and defensively, allowing 110.9 ppg to Wolves’ 112.8. Thunder have a better field goal percentage (45.9% to 45.5%), while both teams have almost identical 3-point percentage (34.9% to 34.7%). Thunder are better in boards grabbed (48 to 45.3), while Wolves are better both in dimes made (24.5 to 23.4) and in turnovers committed (12.7 to 13.8). Thunder without Paul George don’t pose a threat on the road and Vegas odds give the Wolves a -2 spread and expect them to beat the odds for the home win.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves -2 (-110)
