Odds to Win 2019 Big Dance

March Madness has arrived. The college basketball conference tournaments begin tonight with the Atlantic Sun quarterfinals,, Monday, March 4th. The eight team A-Sun pits all eight schools beginning at either 7 or 8:00 p.m. ET with the semifinals taking place on Thursday, March 7th. The final is scheduled for Sunday,  March 10th with a tipoff at 3 p.m. ET.

As a whole we are less than two weeks away from Selection Sunday which will ultimately decide the cast of characters for the NCAA tournament. Virginia, Duke and North Carolina are projected to not only have tops seeds in league play but if things play out just right for the trio of ACC elites they could well all hold No. 1 seeds in the Big Dance.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Outside of the Power-6 rests the current No. 1 ranked Bulldogs. Save adjusted college basketball peripherals coach Mark Few’s team owns the No. 1 offense on KenPom.com. The Bulldogs have a total of 15 wins this season by a 30 or more points. Hence the questions about the Zags readiness after playing in a West Coast Conference that is best described as “soft”.

Virginia Cavaliers

Last season’s loss to UMBC was the major train wreck of the national championship tournament. Coach Tony Bennett has led the Cavaliers to a 1-seed three times since 2014. However Virginia has reached the second weekend just twice in that five year stretch of being a top-five seed.

Duke Blue Devils

The Blue Devils have been everything but dominate without a healthy Zion Williamson. The coach-speak from Mike Krzyzewski forecasted Williamson’s return from a Grade 1 knee sprain from “imminent” to “not until he is 100 percent healthy”. The athletic Devils are a pedestrian shooting team from beyond the arc connecting on just 31 percent of their 3-point attempts this season.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The Heels have lost just once since mid-January. Furthermore despite the surface numbers of freshman point guard Coby White his careless nature with the ball has to seriously improve if this squad is to find themselves playing on the first Monday night of April in Minneapolis.
