Odds to Win 2019 Big Dance Regions

The four No. 1 seeds for the 2019 college basketball national championship tournament are overwhelming favorites to win their regions. And for good reason when looking through the eyes of bookmakers. For the first time since 2009, one conference received three 1-seeds to the NCAA tournament. And Duke, Virginia and North Carolina were placed on the top line as the selections committee’s top three overall rated teams in the field of 68.

Regional Futures

With conference tournament losses by Gonzaga and Kentucky the writing, rankings of the publicly chased SEC, was on the wall before Sunday’s selection committee reveal.

In addition the conference tournaments that have become the standard for making or breaking a team fell into the laps of the underdogs in 2019. Whereas the league postseason events as a whole didn’t benefit, seed-wise, power-conference champions Villanova (6), Iowa State (6), Auburn (5) and Cincinnati (7).

Furthermore looking at the pre-conference tournament projected seedlings found the likes of Florida State (4) and Seton Hall (10) who excelled in this weekend’s tourney’s landed where they were expected to without advancing in last week’s one-and-done’s.

National Championship Futures

The Blue Devils carry significant weight on their shoulders entering this weekend’s opening round of action. Duke is the largest favorites to win the event since the 2014-15 Kentucky Wildcats. Coach Cal’s crew landed in “The Dance” at 2-1 odds to win the title, were undefeated during regular season play, but were defeated in the Final Four.
