2019 NFL Games of the Year
After cancelling the 2018 National Football League contest in Mexico City the NFL announced shortly thereafter that it will return in 2019. The much anticipated Monday Night Football marquee game of the 2018 regular season was to be played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The event was to be a showdown between AFC and NFC’s top teams. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, respectively, on ESPN Monday Night Football. The Mexico City event was cancelled because of conditions of the field at Estadio Azteca. 2019 NFL Games of the Year: Chiefs -2.5 vs Chargers.
The NFL Players Association sent inspectors to Mexico City in early November to determine the safety of the field. The multi-sport field was damaged by heavy rains, a concert and soccer matches. The players’ union concluded that the field was not up to the safety standards of the league. Estadio Azteca had installed hybrid turf-grass field in the previous summer especially for the Monday night affair.
2019 NFL Game of the Year in Mexico City
On Nov. 19 the NFL and Mexico’s President-Elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed the third and final game of the existing agreement between the league and nation would in fact take place at Estadio Azteca.
The league announced that the Mexico City contest would once again pit Kansas City against Los Angeles. However the LA team in 2019 would be the Chargers rather than the Rams. Furthermore that the contest would again be a Monday Night Football event.

The World’s Largest Race and Sportsbook, Westgate of Las Vegas, has positioned the non-conference contest as one of its 2019 Games of the Year. Kansas City opens as a 2.5 point favorite in a game they are listed as the visitor.
With all of the accolades that Kansas City earned and were awarded during the 2018 campaign and this off-season the Chargers are not only the Chiefs primary division foe they may well be one of the most talented teams in the NFL>
Anthony Lynn’s Chargers have worked hard in the offseason to improve on the defensive side of the football. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes threw for six touchdowns against no interceptions in his two games against Phillip Rivers and the Bolts last season.
