It should come as no surprise that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the favorite to throw for the most passing yards in the 2019 National Football League regular season. The 2018-19 NFL surprise was the landslide vote that awarded Mahomes the MVP trophy. The Chiefs quarterback was magnificent nearly every week. He led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and an appearance in the AFC championship game. But it was the margin of votes by which he won over future Hall of Famer Drew Brees that was the long bomb . Mahomes received 41 of the 50 votes from the Associated Press with Brees earning just nine. Furthermore the Kansas City quarterback was just the second player in league history to record a 5,000-yard, 50-touchdown season. The first was… Peyton Manning  who won MVP honors with a similar season in 2013.

Brees’ 2018 campaign saw him become the NFL’s all-time leading passer. The All-Pro exceeded Peyton Manning’s mark of 71,940 passing yards. Also the Saints’ quarterback set records for career completions (6,586, topping Hall of Famer Brett Favre’s 6,300) and single-season completion percentage (74.4). He’s currently second in NFL history with 520 career touchdowns, which is 19 short of Peyton’s all-time mark.

Besides winning the MVP, Mahomes was also named the Offensive Player of the Year and the FedEx Air Player of the Year.

The Chiefs quarterback put up numbers that make it difficult to argue him winning the league’s most valuable player award. The Texas Tech product was the youngest player to win the MVP award since Dan Marino in 1984.

Furthermore playing in the Andy Reid offense with speed and skill surrounding him it is difficult to bet against Mahomes even with a smallish 7-2 futures return on investment.
