Week 9 NFL Look ahead Lines
There isn’t a single more important position in the National Football League than quarterback. In particular when establishing a line for game day. There is a large contingency of NFL pundits that will argue that the quarterback position doesn’t single-handedly dictate the oddsmakers’ offerings. I wouldn’t argue with those football experts as long as they are preaching the offensive line position being equal or greater than that of the quarterback. However, the position of offensive line containers a minimum of five players. The quarterback spot is a single-player entity. Week 9 NFL Look ahead Lines: Mahomes playing status?
The value of a quarterback in the oddsmakers game numbers; money-line, point-spread and total are not wholly subject to the value of the starting quarterback. The equation that formulates the NFL team spread and total encompass a number of variables that form a quantitative measure. And knowing that outside variables also influence team and game numbers isn’t just important it is critical to long-term success.
The easiest, simplest and most dependable variable for oddsmakers to measure when formulating team and game numbers is, in fact, public perception. The most consistent performance from week to week and most accurate measurement in the oddsmakers formula is measuring the public money that will come in on specific teams regardless of the point-spread or total.
Without spending two thousand words offering up a detailed outline of how the oddsmakers get down and dirty when working their game day numbers know that in this day and age of the NFL quarterbacks matter in a big way. 90 percent of the teams in the league pass the ball more than they run it. As a result one of the most overlooked positions in football is specific. This being the backup to the starting quarterback.
Sabermetrics are not associated with football like they are in Major League Baseball but wins above replacement is important when the sportsbooks and their oddsmakers are establishing a value, a point differential, between an injured starting QB to that of the second on the depth chart.
Week 9 NFL Look ahead Lines: Mahomes playing status?
Westgate has the Week 9 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Minnesota Vikings off the board. And the handicap for that game is not available for reason contrary to what most believe. The game is off the board because the bookmakers understand that there is a chance Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes could return. Not to the knowledge that he, in fact, won’t play. Mahomes’ availability for the first Sunday in November has yet to be determined.
