Cleveland Browns at New York Jets Preview & Prediction

All the talk about what teams will do in the coming season proves to be just all talk when the regular season begins. Every team comes into the new season with expectations placed upon them, some of which simply cannot be done. The New England Patriots have looked great through the opening 2 weeks, to the point that people are already talking about a 16-0 season. Every team, no matter how good they are, has an off week over the course of a 16-game season, so to be perfect from start to finish is a monumental task. The same rules apply with the Cleveland Browns. The chatter surrounding this team in the preseason was that they were a mortal lock to win the AFC North, and that the Super Bowl might already be in their future. Those expectations have been severely downgraded after the Browns were blown out in Week 1. They will try to get back on course on Monday night when they head to New York to face a Jets team that is already banged-up. The Browns are in as a 6 ½ point road favorite, with the point total for this one set at 45.

Why bet on the Cleveland Browns

As I mentioned at the top of this piece, the Browns were seen as a prohibitive favorite to be in the playoffs this year, with many even believing that they would be set to make a deep run. Teams may look good on paper, but it’s on the field where they are truly tested. The Browns failed their first test of the season in spectacular fashion, going down 43-13 to the Tennessee Titans at home in Week 1. Cleveland looked bad all over the field, but it was the number of penalties that they took that perhaps hurt the most. They now head on the road, where they have just 2 wins in their last 20 trips. They have not had much recent success versus the Jets, going 1-5 SU and ATS in their last 6 meetings.

Why bet on the New York Jets

Starting the season with a loss is not the end of the world, but there are bigger problems that the Jets have to deal with than just losing 17-16 to the Buffalo Bills in the opening week of the season. The biggest problem is that they are going to be without the services of Sam Darnold, with the QB out with mono. Word is that he may be back by Week 5, but the season could be all but over for the Jets by then. They will have Trevor Siemian in as the back-up, and while handing the ball to LeVeon Bell seems like a good idea, the RB is questionable for tonight’s game. Going back to last season, the Jets are now 1-9 SU in their last 10, which includes being 0-6 SU in their last 6 at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think that this is a real opportunity for the Browns to wash off the stink of last week’s performance. They are up against a weakened Jets team on Monday night and should have more than enough to go out and get the win.
