Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers Preview
The Vikings, 1-0 (1-0 ATS), entered the season looking to turn things around after a disappointing 2018. Let’s just say they got off to a great start. They picked up a dominant home win over the Atlanta Falcons while looking awfully stout on defense.
Speaking of defense, that was a big focus for the Packers, 1-0 (1-0 ATS), in the offseason. Early returns suggest that the club managed to hit the right notes. Green Bay won a slugfest over the Chicago Bears last Thursday while holding their opponents in check.
Minnesota was solid in all facets during the 28-12 win over the Falcons. Kirk Cousins had a quiet day with 98 passing yards and a score, but he simply didn’t need to do much. Once the Vikings built a lead, it was the Dalvin Cook show.
Cook toted the rock 21 times for 111 yards and two scores. All told, the Vikings backfield combined for 172 rushing yards on 38 carries. Kevin Stefanski is in his first full year as OC, and it’s clear he wants to re-establish the run game, a weakness for the club a season ago. The defense looked much improved in Week 1 as well, racking up four sacks and forcing three turnovers.
Green Bay Packers
There wasn’t much in the way of offense to see in the Packers 10-3 season-opening win over the Bears. Aaron Rodgers found Jimmy Graham for an eight-yard strike in the second quarter, while Mason Crosby handled the rest of the scoring for Green Bay.
The defense completely held the Chicago offense in check, limiting their opponents to a total of 213 yards. Green Bay racked up five sacks in the game and had six tackles for loss. Among the new pieces of the puzzle on defense, Za’Darius Smith shined with one sack and a TFL, as well as three hits on Chicago QB Mitchell Trubisky.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers Prediction
It’s early in the year, but this game will tell us a lot about the NFC North. Both of these squads impressed on defense in Week 1, so we could be in for a low-scoring affair. In the end, the home field and just enough from Aaron Rodgers proves to be the difference maker as the Packers win and cover.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers Pick: Green Bay Packers -3 (-110)
