Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Preview
The Eagles, 1-0 (0-1 ATS), were big double-digit favorites over the visiting Washington Redskins on Sunday. The Redskins came to play and raced out to a 17-0 win. Philadelphia was able to get it together to get the win in the home opener.
The first week of the season was a disappointing one for the Falcons, 0-1 (0-1 ATS). They were in Minnesota to face the Vikings for a game which was expected to be close. It was anything but that. Vikings dominated the proceedings and skated to an easy victory.
A 69-yard TD from Case Keenum to Terry McLaurin put the Redskins up by a score of 17-0 in the second quarter on Sunday. The Eagles finally woke up from that point and took control the rest of the way. Carson Wentz found DeSean Jackson for two scores as part of a solid day.
Wentz threw for 313 yards and three TDs in total, while Jackson dropped a line of 8/154/2. Philadelphia had to work for it, but the end result was a 32-27 victory as 10-point home favorites. The defense got it together and clamped down after a tough start with a garbage-time TD from Washington closing the gap.
Minnesota took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter of the opener versus the Falcons and never looked back. At the half, it was all Vikings with a 21-0 lead. They would run it to 28-0 in the third quarter. Atlanta finally got something going on offense in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
The end result was a 28-12 victory for the Vikings in a game which was nowhere near as close as the final score indicates. The Falcons offense was out of sync until two late meaningless TDs. The defense had no answers for Dalvin Cook, who ran for 111 yards and two scores in the win. Atlanta resembled a team with lots of work to do.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Prediction
The Eagles may have been sleepwalking at the start of Week 1, but the team woke up and got the job done. For the Falcons, they exited the opening week with a lot of questions. That’s not a good spot to be in with a strong Philadelphia team coming to town. The Eagles win and cover.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -1.5 (-110)
