Broncos vs. Raiders Preview
The Broncos opened up last season with a mark of 2-0, but things would go downhill from that point. The club won just four more games in 2018 to finish up with a record of 6-10 (6-9-1 ATS). A pair of four-game losing streaks doomed Denver to also-ran status in the AFC West.
It was a season to forget in Oakland last year. The club would win just one of its first nine games. A little life was shown over the second half of the year, but the team still finished a dismal 4-12 (6-10 ATS). Nine of the team’s losses were of the double-digit variety.
Vance Joseph was canned after the disappointing season. The club would move on and hire Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to fill the slot. Rich Scangarello is on board to lead the offense, while Ed Donatell leads the defense.
The club swung a trade for Joe Flacco in the offseason and parted ways with last year’s starter, Case Keenum. Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan joined the team in free agency, while Bradley Roby and others are pursuing their careers elsewhere.
In the first-round of the draft, the Broncos selected Iowa TE Noah Fant. For 2018, the club ranked 24th in the league with 20.6 points per game. On defense, the club allowed 21.8 points per contest, which ranked 13th.

Jon Gruden’s first year back in Oakland didn’t go too swell, but he’ll be back for an encore. Greg Olson serves as OC, while Paul Guenther returns to lead the defense. The club was able to nab Antonio Brown via trade, providing Derek Carr with another weapon.
The Raiders were active in free agency, signing players such as Trent Brown and Vontaze Burfict. Jared Cook and Donald Brown are among those who have moved on. In round one of the NFL draft, the club selected Clemson DE Clelin Farrell with their first selection.
Alabama RB Josh Jacobs and Mississippi State S Jonathan Abram were next with the team’s other first-round picks. Oakland ranked 28th in the league with an average of 18.1 points per game in 2018. The defense was dead last for the year with an average of 29.2 points allowed.
Raiders vs. Broncos Prediction
Last season, the clubs split a pair of games. The Broncos picked up a one-point win at home in Week 2 as 6-point favorites, while the Raiders won 27-14 at home in Week 16 as 2.5-point dogs.
The Raiders are slight home favorites for this one, but we’re rolling the other way. We like the Broncos plus the points as the Fangio era gets off to a solid start.
Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders Pick: Denver Broncos +2 (-110)
