Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers Preview & Prediction

For the teams who are currently occupying playoff spots in the NFL, the goal is to stay there and to try and get as high a seed as possible. Of course, the #1 seed is what every team is after, as that guarantees home field advantage through the playoffs, but settling in at #2 is also good. Getting a week off while the rest of the conference battles it out in Wild Card weekend delivers an obvious advantage. In the AFC, we have the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens looking like the cream of the crop and the most likely 1 and 2 seed right now, but things are a good deal tighter over in the NFC. There is still a lot of football to be played, but it really does look as though the battle for seeding is going to go all the way down to the final week of the season. With the race in the NFC so tight, the pressure will increase with each passing week, starting on Monday night when the Seattle Seahawks go into San Francisco to face the 49ers in a battle of two of the best teams in the conference. The 49ers are favored by 6 points at home, with the point total set at 47 ½.

Why bet on the Seattle Seahawks

If you asked the average football fan to guess where a team with 7 wins out of 9 games would be sitting right now, most would guess the top of the division. The Seattle Seahawks are 7-2 right now, but they still trail the winless San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. While they won’t take the top spot with a win here, they can potentially make things very interesting in the division race, as well as in the battle for the #1 seed in the NFC. While Seattle has established themselves as one of the best home teams in the league in recent years, it is their road form that is great this season at 4-0. The Seahawks have won back to back games and are a very healthy 13-3 ATS in their last 16 meetings with the 49ers.

Why bet on the San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have the distinction of being the only unbeaten team still standing this season, and while they have been very good, they have had a couple of close calls along the way. They survived a 6 turnover game to beat the Steelers earlier in the season and were perhaps a little lucky to squeeze past the Arizona Cardinals last week. Good teams find a way to win, though, and San Francisco has been doing that at home, winning 5 of their last 6 games in their won building. That is tempered somewhat by the fact that they are 1-4 SU in their last 5 at home versus Seattle. On Monday night games, the 49ers are 13-2 ATS in their last 15.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Even if you have an early rise on Tuesday morning, this looks like a game worth staying up for. I see this as being close, but I think the 49ers have the slight edge in their own building.
