Buster’s Top-10 NHL Teams (Feb. 24 – March 1)

Busters Sports will be releasing their Top-10 NHL teams each week of the 2019-20 season. They will not be the top-10 teams in terms of league standings, but what we believe are the teams that are deserving of the top spots in the NHL. Buster Sports dominated the NHL last year with a record of 166-126-9, making their clients a PROFIT OF 115.68%. This year, Buster is hitting at a 64-percent clip (47-27-3) over their last 77 NHL total releases.

Buster’s Top-10 NHL Teams (Feb. 24 – March 1)

Tampa Bay finally came down to earth this week as they ended up going 1-2 on their 3 game road trip. Now they come home for a 5 game home stand with 3 of those games being this week. The first game this week is against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. They will have no trouble beating the hated Leafs especially when the Leafs could not beat a Zamboni driver turned goaltender in their last game. No matter what happens to the Lightning in their 3 games this week they will be number 1 on our list next week. This is what we said with our Top 10 list last week. However if they lose 2 out of 3 this week they will lose their top spot.

The Bruins will stay in the Number 2 spot this week as they completed the Western Canada road trip with a 2-1 record. However, their loss was an ugly 9-3 setback to the Canucks in their last game. They play 3 games this week and they are looking to try and hold on to first place in the Eastern Conference. As of now, they have a 5-point lead over Tampa Bay. It really looks to us unless one of these two top teams go on a losing streak they might be interchangeable on our list. Although we believe that the Capitals, Penguins and Avalanche might have something to say about it.

The Avalanche jump two spots this week as both the Capitals and the Penguins had really bad weeks. Colorado on the other hand have gone 3-1 this past week and have really started to play some solid defensive hockey. They have now won 8 out of 11 games and they are only 3 points behind St. Louis for the top spot in the Western Conference. In saying this, they also have two games in hand on the Blues. They have 3 games this week and they will need to go at least 2-1 to keep their spot. The Penguins and Capitals are clubs that are very deserving of this third spot, however some suspect hockey by those clubs puts them below the Avalanche. We expect both of those clubs to start playing better moving forward.

The Capitals have really shit the bed of late losing 5 out of their last 8 games. This is what we said last week and they just keep playing some brutal hockey for a team we believe are one of the best in the NHL. They went 1-3 last week but they keep their 4th spot. We actually wanted to drop them down the list but then they come from behind and beat Pittsburgh yesterday in what was an impressive win. They have 3 games this week and only 2-1 will keep them in the 4 or 5 spot. If this club pulls a 1-2 after what we saw yesterday, they will drop to 8th or 9th. One more chance for the club that had held our Number 1 position longer than anyone had so far this year. We see a big run coming very soon.

The Penguins went 1-3 this week and because of this they will drop two spots but they are just as close to 3rd as they are in the Number 5 spot. They would have been 4th if they could have held on to their 3rd period lead yesterday but we cannot put them ahead of the Capitals. Well at least not this week. We were very very disappointed with this club this week as they looked like a club who were on the rise. They are now on a 3 game losing steak losing to the Capitals, Buffalo and Toronto a team that cannot even beat a team with a Zamboni driver as a goaltender. This is why they drop this week. Truthfully, we really believe come playoff time they will be one of the teams to beat for Lord Stanley no matter where they end up starting the playoffs. As for now, they have 3 tough road games on the West Coast of the USA. They will need to win 2 out of these 3 games or they will drop again next week.

The Golden Knights had probably what might be their best week of the year going 4-0 this week. It is not just the fact that they went 4-0 but they beat both Tampa Bay and Washington in doing so. They keep their spot at number 6 and they actually deserve to be higher. We are giving the Capitals/ Penguins one more week ahead of them only because we believe that the Eastern Conference is much tougher this year. We also believe those two clubs are slightly better. Vegas has now won 6 games in a row and they play 3 games this week. Their PK dropped 2 more spots again this week to 24th and is becoming more and more of a problem each week. Vegas do have their problems as they allow a bunch of goals. They did acquire D Alec Martinez from LA this week, but we are not sure how much he helps defensively but he is a veteran presence. Right now spots 3 to 7 on our list could be interchangeable so it makes for a great end to the NHL season.

The Blues hang on to spot number 7 on our list as they now have won 4 games in a row, all this week. Every time we think that the Blues will be falling down more spots, they start playing like the Stanley Cup Champions that they are. Really impressed with the Blues walking into Dallas and spanking them the way they did on Friday. They have 3 games this week and they still do lead the Western Conference in points. They have really turned up defensively in their last 4 games allowing only 2 goals. If they keep playing like this, they will find themselves heading up our list instead of down.

Dallas went 2-1 on the week and they keep their Number 8 spot on our list. The Stars have now won 6 out of their last 8 games and only a real shit kicking from St. Louis kept them from moving up the list this week. They are only 4 points out of the top spot in the West but if they cannot solve their St. Louis problem, they will have no chance at Lord Stanley. This week we will see what the Stars are made of. They have 3 games all on the road this week finishing against their nemesis the Blues. They win 2 out of 3 and they keep their spot. It will depend on the other clubs below them if they stay on the list going 1-2 which is what will probably happen.

The Flyers will keep their Number 9 spot as they are playing some really nice hockey of late. They went 3-0 on the week winning two games against Columbus who they are fighting with for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. We love how they fought back in one of those games for the win and that is the kind of momentum they will need moving forward. This week the scheduler does the Flyers no favors, as they have to play a home and home against the red-hot Rangers. As we said last week, there are many teams on the Flyers heels for their spot on our list, they keep it with a 2-1 week.

We said last week as time goes by we will see this team move up our list. Well the Predators are one of these one-step forward two-step back types of teams. Fortunately for them no one else has really gained much ground on them. They still have a bunch of games in hand on the teams they are chasing for the playoffs and we will give them one more week at spot Number 10. They started a 5 game home stand with a win over Columbus and they play 3 more games this week. They need to be 2-1 in these games or they will be off the list. We will look for them to sweep all 3 games.
