Busters Sports will be releasing their Top-10 NHL teams each week of the 2019-20 season. They will not be the top-10 teams in terms of league standings, but what we believe are the teams that are deserving of the top spots in the NHL. Buster Sports dominated the NHL last year with a record of 166-126-9, making their clients a PROFIT OF 115.68%.

Buster’s Top-10 NHL Teams (Jan. 6 – 12)
1) WASHINGTON CAPITALS
This is the best team in the league right now and truthfully, it does not look like anyone is close. This is what we said going into the XMAS break and after couple of weeks they still are the best team in the league but they now have a whole bunch of teams looking to take over. The Capitals, who went 3-3 with their games over the holidays, have not looked like the same club. This will happen as the 82 game season gives many teams highs and lows. The Capitals are in a bit of a low right now although yesterdays unbelievable comeback victory should give them a spark. They have 3 games this week and winning 2 out of 3 will keep them Number 1 on the list.
2) COLORADO AVALANCHE
We put the team that we really like to have a good chance to win all the marbles in the second spot this week. Colorado went 3-3 over the holidays but now have their rookie defenseman Cale Makar back in the lineup. Colorado look poised now to go on a big run. They have won two in a row and continue their 3 game road trip with games against the Islanders and NYR. They then get a strange scheduling break as they only play one game for a whole week. This will only be a positive and we will definitely be on their side with a few bets in the up coming month. As long as they win 2 out of 3 games, they will keep their Number 2 spot.
3) ST LOUIS BLUES
We drop the Blues from Number 2 to Number 3 only because we believe the Avalanche are a better team. We know St. Louis has owned Colorado of late but we believe the tables have turned following Colorado’s 7-3 beatdown last week. In spite of that, St. Louis still looks like a strong playoff team and will have a shot of defending their crown. The Blues are now on a 3 game losing streak and have 3 games this week. They start a 5 game homestand on Tuesday against the Sharks and winning two out of 3 games during this week, will keep them in their spot. If they continue to lose, they will drop down this list in a hurry as we have some of the usual suspects getting back on the list this week.
4) BOSTON BRUINS
The Bruins have not been playing bad hockey at all but over the holidays went 3-3. Here is the interesting thing about a team that is always scrappy and tough. In their last 6 losses they have lost 5 of them in OT or the SO. That is definitely not Bruins hockey. This team has made a living on winning close games (just ask the Leafs). So at the end of the day we are really not too sure what to make of them this year. We know they are one of the best teams in this league but if they do not start to win games, they will make a fall on our list. They have 3 games this week and two of them are in tough spots on the road in Nashville and against the Islanders. They will be a watch and see for us. As for now, they keep their spot at Number 4.
5) PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
The Penguins move up our list to Number 5 this week and this team keeps getting the job done with a whole bunch of injuries. The latest victim for the Penguins was leading scorer Jake Guentzel losing him for four-to-six months. If there was any good news for Pittsburgh, it is that Sidney Crosby should be back soon. However, even with all the injuries the Penguins have been playing great hockey. They have now won 11 out of their last 15 games and now are second in the Metro. The next man up scenario has worked to a T for Pittsburgh and this will be HUGE come playoff time. They have a 3 game road trip this week starting in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. It will not be fair to penalize the Penguins for going 1-2 on the trip so we will not do so. If they happen to lose all 3 then we will decide if they stay in the Number 5 spot.
6) LAS VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Our Number 1 team at the beginning of the season is slowly making its way back up the list and now sit in the Number 6 position. Vegas is on a 7 game homestand and they have won all 4 games they have played so far. The home ice advantage, which looked to be lost early in the year for the Golden Knights, now looks as strong as ever. We see no reason that this club cannot win all 7 at home as they face a beat up Penguins club and then finish with the Kings and Blue Jackets this week. The true test for this club will be the following weeks when they embark on an 8 game road trip. However, it will actually be two 4 game road trips with their bye week in between. Some of the teams that are expected to make big runs are doing just that and Vegas is one of them. We will see how the week goes, as maybe 2 out of 3 might not be good enough to hold their spot. All 3 wins and the Golden Knights spot on the list next week will be at least Number 6.
7) TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Tampa Bay jumps right on to 7th spot on our list as the former Number 2 club has started to heat up. Tampa Bay has now won 7 in a row and are coming on strong to try and secure what was their top spot in the Atlantic division. This is going to be the dogfight we always thought it would be, as the Bruins, Lightning and Leafs will fight for Number 1 in the division. The Lightning actually have 4 games this week finishing a back to back on the weekend in Philly and NJ. As long as they do not go on any type of losing streak, they will keep their spot of Number 7. However, any bit of a relapse to their shitty play of earlier in the season and they will fall as teams look to go on winning streaks before their bye weeks at the end of the month.
8) TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
As most of you know who are clients or read our list weekly, we were quite pleased that the Leafs left our list earlier in the year. However, this club has been playing the best offensive hockey of any club the last month and because of this, they have now won 9 out of their last 10 games. They jump right to 8th on the list and are looking to move up. Since Toronto made the coaching change to HC Sheldon Keefe they are 15-5. The Leafs will play 3 games this week and actually get a nice break when they play Wednesday at home and then do not play till Sunday at Florida. Just as the Lightning we will see how this streak keeps playing out, but we are sure that they will be somewhere on the list next week.
9) NEW YORK ISLANDERS
The Islanders make a HUGE drop down our list and truthfully, they look like they will be not too long for the list. They have now lost 6 out of their last 9 games and that massive winning streak at the beginning of the year seems light years away. We did write about this, as we believed it might be a matter of time for this club. We do love how this team always fights for wins, even though they do not have enough talent as some of the big boys in the league. It will be a big test for the Islanders this week with Colorado and Boston at home then hitting the road to play the Devils. If they happen to win 2 out of 3 of those games they will stay on the list, if not it looks like it will be sayonara.
10) ARIZONA COYOTES
Arizona drops down to 10th on our list and they are only hanging on because they have put together a 3 game winning streak. They have lost their Pacific lead to the Golden Knights and now really have to start playing some hockey to make the playoffs. It is very surprising to us that the acquisition of Taylor Hall has not improved this club. In saying that we also know these things take time as screwing with a hockey team’s chemistry is never a good thing. Now the tough sledding comes for the Coyotes as they have 4 games this week. Three of those games are on the road against Florida, TB and Carolina. We believe 2-2 would be great for this club and keep them on the list. If they happen to go 1-3 they will probably be off the list as there are a couple of teams ready to pounce on their spot.
