Buster’s Top-10 NHL Teams (Nov. 25 – Dec. 1)

The forgotten club is forgotten no more and they sit in our Number 1 spot for the first time this year. This is what we said last week and we said no matter what happened last week they would still be our number 1 this week. Well they went 1-2 on the week losing their last game in a SO. They still have only lost 4 games in regulation all year and they lead the league in points so Number 1 they are. They have 3 games this week and a big one with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. Going 2-1 on the week keeps them Number 1 for another week.

The Bruins had a solid come back from a 1-2 week, winning all 3 of their games this week. Talking about losing games in regulation, the Bruins have only lost 3 games in regulation this year. We actually commented that the Bruins should be able to win all 3 games this past week so they could get out of their slump. Well that is exactly what they did and they keep the Number 2 spot. It is starting to look like the Top 3 on our list will be the Top 3 teams for some time. The Bruins have 4 games this week and play two games against their rivals the Montreal Canadiens. We see them getting at least 3 wins as they really have been playing great hockey all year.

The NYI will hold pat at number 3 this week again as they went 2-1 this week. They continue their 3 game West road trip after losing their first game in OT to San Jose. Talking about teams losing in regulation, the Islanders have not lost in regulation since October 11th. Yes, you would be right in thinking the regular season started on October 2nd. There truly is not much separating our Top 3 clubs and as the season moves on, it could be very hard for any other clubs to penetrate the Top 3. The Islanders have now won 15 out of their last 17 games. As we said last week even if they lose their next 3 games Number 3 is their spot next week as well.

The Avalanche stay at Number 4 again this week as they went 1-2 on the week but we have been very impressed with this club and they are still playing really well without Miko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. Colorado just came off a very successful road trip, and were in a very tough spot on Saturday when they lost to the Leafs. We were thinking of dropping them a spot but we believe not many teams could play as well as the Avalanche have with their situation. This team has some great depth. They have 3 games this week and a winning week will keep them in spot number 4.

Well the Lightning will hold spot Number 5 for another week as they did win 2 out of 3 games for the week. We still are very puzzled on why they are playing so shitty even if they are winning. They have won 5 out of 7 games but we know this team and they have been winning ugly. They have 4 games this week and we will see what the week brings. The Tampa Bay club we know should win 3 out of 4 since they have 3 at home and not against any team special. The road trip to Washington will be tough but that game is the type they won last year. 2-2 on the week drops them a spot or two.

The regression was inevitable playing without Vladimir Tarasenko but they also had to deal with the loss of Alexander Steen this week, as he will miss a month with a high ankle sprain. This is what we had said last week as the Blues were starting to slide. Well they won 2 out of 3 games last week and that keeps them in spot number 6. As the two wins were very impressive over Calgary and Tampa Bay. They play 4 games this week and start a 3 game road trip in Nashville tonight. It will be interesting to see how much fight these guys have left in them having been shorthanded for so long now.

The Oilers went 3-1 this week and they continue to look impressive as they have opened up the offense and it has been working. They had a big win last night in a SO win against Arizona. They now are actually tied for second overall in the NHL. However they still sit 7th on our list because we still have some doubts about this club. As the next couple of weeks go by this could change. As for now, they stay in 7th spot. They play 3 games this week and 2 of them on the road. As long as they win a game and do not go 0-3 we will keep them up on our list.

Arizona Coyotes went 2-2 this week and they will be able to keep their spot on our list for the week as one of their losses was in a SO last night. The Coyotes can be any type, as far as they play great defensively but they can score this year, which makes them dangerous. They have 3 games this week and two at home. This club is a little similar to Edmonton in how we look at them and they do sit a couple of points behind Edmonton in the Pacific. They have been getting great goaltending and if that starts to fade, they could be in trouble. We will watch and they will stay on our list for now.

We welcome the Dallas Stars to our list and after just a brutal start, they have been one of the most dominant clubs in the NHL. They have now won 10 out of their last 11 games and have not lost in regulation since October 26th. They have 4 tough games this week starting tonight against Vegas. If they can go 2-2 they will keep their spot on the list. Teams are slowly starting to show who the best are as our list is staying similar at the top. However, as we say this we all should remember, it is still early in the year and this is the NHL.

The Jets make their first appearance on our list as they have been playing some good hockey of late, even though they have a real make shift defense. They have now won 6 out of their last 8 and they have done it very quietly. They seem to play close games no matter what team they play. However, it shows tons about a team in this league if they can win close games. We are not sure how long they will stay on our list but when you can go to Florida, Tampa Bay, Nashville and Dallas and only lose 1 game, you deserve to be on our list. There are other teams that are just as deserving, but the Jets won out for us. Now they have to go on a 3 game West Coast road trip, lets see where they stand after that.
