Buster’s Top-10 NHL Teams (Nov. 4 – Nov. 11)

The Bruins have made it to the Top of our Top 10 list and they stay there this week as they still have only lost one game in regulation. There is no doubt they are the best team in the league. They have started where they left off last year and had another good week winning both games easily. They have 4 games this week and a trip to Montreal on Tuesday night should be a good one. No matter what happens, they will be our Top Team next week. They are that good.

The forgotten club had another great week going 3-0 and one of those games they beat the hated Leafs so in that alone they get moved up our list. The reason they jump 3 spots is because they are without a doubt the second best team so far this year. We really like how this club can play both offensive and defensive hockey and if G Houbty ever decides to play the way he can, they will be near the top of this list all year. Two tough games for the Capitals this week but regardless they will stay in this spot for at least another week.

After a big week last week the Predators went 1-2 this week and they still move up a spot on our list. The reason for this is that they have played great even in losing 2 tough ones and Vegas and Colorado really have fallen on hard times. Nashville has had trouble with their PP this year and if that gets back in line, they will continue to be a dangerous club. The Predators start a 4 game road trip tonight and as long as they win 3 out of 4 they will keep this spot.

The Avalanche drop back to Number 4 and they have had just a brutal couple of weeks on the injury front. First, they lose Miko Rantanen and now Gabriel Landeskog is gone leaving only Nathan MacKinnon from what is arguably one of the best lines in the NHL. Colorado has now lost 3 in a row in what looked like a special season in Denver. They do have a couple of home games this week but it looks like the Avalanche will keep falling down our list unless the rest of the offense can step up. They do have some depth but now they have to prove they can play without two big guns. It will be interesting to see how they do this week.

We first would like to apologize to all of the Islanders fans as we had them knocking on the door and looking into our Top 10 last week. They probably should have been 9 or 10. Well now, they are winners of 9 in a row and not do they only get into our Top 10, they bust all the way through to Number 5. Most of our Top 10 teams are showing signs that we do not like seeing in a hockey team. However, not the Islanders as they have been playing great hockey and defensively they have allowed only 3 goals once in their last 9 games. That is really impressive especially in this day and age of hockey. They have 3 games at home this week and we have a feeling that this club will be hanging around in our Top 10 for a while.

As we said last week, something is missing with this club, they have all the talent and they are playing like shit. Is it time for HC Cooper to find another job?? Well one problem is their defense. They seem to be having trouble clearing people out of the front of the net and they are allowing a ton of shots. They are number 3 in the league in shots on goal against and if that does not improve they will be in trouble all year. They keep their spot in Number 6 only because we know they are a way better club than what they have shown on the ice so far this year. Another 1-2 week will knock them right off our list. That is a real bad sign considering they where our Number 1 to start the season. They get a break and play the falling Sabres in Sweden this weekend and that might just save them from dropping next week.

Vegas drops like a rock this weeks Top 10 and now we are deeply concerned with what has always been a really gritty club. How do you let two teams such as Montreal and Winnipeg to come back from a 2 goal third period deficits on your home ice, and you lose both games in OT. Teams that are soft are put down on our list faster than a blink of an eye. We are shocked with what we have seen from this club the last two weeks. They had time to regroup after they were beat bad in a couple of spots two weeks ago but it looks like they did not take advantage. They now hit the road for 4 games this week in a couple of tough spots. If they do not change things around soon they will find themselves on the outside of our list.

The Hurricanes stay in our 8th spot this week as they ended up with a 2-1 week at home. This week they play 2 out of their 3 games on the road and this is where our concern is for this club. There has been a definite home ice advantage for Carolina since the middle of last year, however they have struggled so far this year on the road. They need to prove to us that they can win on the road and by doing so they will keep their shaky spot near the bottom of our list.

The Oilers had a good week as they finished the week 2-1 with a solid win at Pittsburgh. We are still wondering exactly what type of team they are but for now, they have played good enough to keep their 9th spot on the list. They still hold the lead in the Pacific and if they keep doing that, they will stay on the list. The Oilers have 3 home games this week starting with Arizona tonight. Winning 2 out of these 3 games will be mandatory to stay on our list as there are a variety of clubs waiting to pounce on their Pacific lead.

The Blues have really impressed us since losing 4 in a row and falling out of our list. They received some bad news early last week when their best player Vladimir Tarasenko, underwent surgery on his left shoulder and will miss at least five months. Well in response, the Blues just went out and won 4 games in a row and 3 of them in OT. We have said before how much we love teams that are scrappy and have fight. However, the Stanley Cup Champs have a test this week as they continue their road trip in Western Canada. As long as they can win 2 out of those 3 games they will be on our list next week.
