Date/Time/TV: Fri. Feb.8, 8:00 PM EST, MSG
Money Line: Carolina Hurricanes -120, New York Rangers +100
The Hurricanes were in action on the road last night and defeated the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 6-
5 in OT. That was the club’s second win in a row following Tuesday’s 4-0 road win over the
Pittsburgh Penguins. The team is currently in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with 60 points and
a record of 27-21-6.
The Rangers are in 11th place in the east with a mark of 23-22-8 and 54 points. They are currently
nine points out of a playoff berth. The team was last in action on Wednesday at home versus the
Boston Bruins. They skated away with a 4-3 shootout win, breaking a two-game losing streak.
The Hurricanes are three points behind the Penguins in the race for the final playoff spot in the east,
but the team is trending up. Carolina is 6-3-1 (7-3 O/U) over its last 10 games. They have been
decent on the road to date with a record of 13-12-2.
Curtis McElhinney is the probable starter for tonight’s contest. He’s 13-6-1 on the year with a 2.50
GAA and .915 save percentage. Over his last five, McElhinney is 4-1 with 17 goals allowed.
Sebastian Aho is the top offensive threat for the Hurricanes with 24 goals and 38 assists this season.
New York Rangers
The Rangers have been playing better of late with a record of 6-3-1 (6-4 O/U) for the last 10. The
team is strong at home with a mark of 14-8-4. For the last five at home, the Rangers are 3-2, but just
1-3 for the last four.
Henrik Lundqvist has the probable designation. He’s 16-13-8 with a 3.04 GAA and .906 save
percentage. Lundqvist is 3-2 over his last five with 12 goals allowed. Chris Kreider is the top goal
scorer with 24, while Mika Zibanejad leads the way in helpers with 31.
Hurricanes vs. Rangers Prediction
This is the third meeting of the season for the two teams. They split the first two, with the home team
being victorious both times. Over the last 10 meetings, the Rangers have a 7-3 edge and have won
five of the last six.
The spread is tight and these two squads match up well. The Hurricanes needed OT to pick up a win
last night while the Rangers enjoyed some time off. The extra rest will help push the hosts to a
victory on the home ice.
