The Capitals were last in action on Sunday at Madison Square Garden versus the New York Rangers,
picking up a 3-2 shootout win. That was the team’s fourth consecutive victory, and sixth in its last
seven outings. Washington has a record of 38-21-7 and 83 points, which is good enough for 5th place
in the east.
The Flyers are on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs go, but the team has been very strong
over the second half of the regular season. The Flyers are 32-26-8 with 72 points, which leaves them
in 10th place in the east and seven points out of a playoff spot. They were also on the ice on Sunday,
skating to a 4-1 road win over the New York Islanders.
The Capitals had a rough stretch back in January in which the team was winless in seven straight
games. The club has really turned things around of late while going 7-3-0 (4-6 O/U) over the last 10
games. Washington has been pretty good on the road this season with a record of 19-12-2 to date.
Braden Holtby is expected to be in net tonight. He brings a record of 24-16-4 to the table, along with
a 2.94 GAA and .909 save percentage. Over his last five, Holtby has four wins while allowing 11
goals. Alex Ovechkin tops the team in goals with 45, while John Carlson leads in helpers with 47.
Philadelphia had a very challenging start to the regular season, lowlighted by a dreadful eight-game
winless stretch, but the club has put those struggles in the rearview mirror. Over the last 10 games,
the Flyers are 7-2-1 (7-2-1 O/U). For the season, the team has been mediocre on the road at 15-14-4,
but the club went 2-1 on its recent road swing.
Brian Elliott has the probable tag for the Flyers. He’s 9-7-1 on the year with a .920 save percentage
and 2.50 GAA. Elliott has wins in three of his last five and has given up 12 goals over that span.
Sean Couturier is the team’s leading goal scorer with 27, while Claude Giroux tops the team with 51
Capitals vs. Flyers Prediction
These two clubs last hooked up back in January on Washington’s home ice. The Capitals came out
on top by a score of 5-3. Washington holds a 6-4 advantage for the last 10 meetings of these two
Both squads are playing exceptionally well, but the hosts need the win that much more to keep their
playoff hopes alive. We’re looking for that to be the difference maker as the Flyers skate to victory.
