Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers Preview & Prediction

The NHL is one of the more forgiving leagues when it comes to losing in that a team can still pick up a point after losing in OT or in a shootout. It’s still never ideal to lose, but those single points can prove to be valuable to teams that are in the middle of a playoff race. That is especially true this season, as the playoff races in both conferences are as tight as they can get. Right now, with the season in its final few weeks, those single points can prove to be the difference between making the playoffs and sitting home watching other teams take part. The Columbus Blue Jackets are relying pretty heavily on picking up points in losing causes, which is what is currently keeping them alive in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. They will be in Edmonton on Saturday night to face an Oilers team that is in pretty decent shape in the West, but who have been a little up and down of late. The Oilers come int this game as a 1 ½ point favorite on home ice, with the goal total set at 5 ½.

Why bet on the Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets are still sitting in a playoff spot, holding one of the Wild Card positions in the Eastern Conference, but they are a little fortunate, if we are being honest. They have gone just 2-4-4 in their last 10 games, but they have benefitted from the fact that most of the teams sitting below then are all on losing skids of various lengths. Overall, the Blue Jackets are 32-21-15 on the season, and it is those 15 losses where they picked up a point that has helped keep them in the position they are currently holding. There is no team in the league who has had more OT losses than the Blue Jackets, with most of them coming on the road, where they are 12-9-11. Columbus lost 4-1 in their earlier meeting with Edmonton this season.

Why bet on the Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are in decent shape in the Western Conference and still have a shot at winning the Pacific Division. The Oilers are sitting with a season record of 36-24-8, which has them on 80 points, just 2 points back of the Vegas Golden Knights in first. They have been a little inconsistent of late, going 5-3-2 in their last 10 games, which includes a loss in their last outing. They have been great in recent games versus teams from the Metropolitan Division, winning 11 of the last 13 meetings against those teams. At home, the Oilers are sitting at 16-10-5, although they are just 12-19 ATS in those games. In their last 13 home games versus Columbus, the OVER has hit 10 times.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

While the Oilers games have been trending more towards the UNDER of late, these two always seem to deliver some offense when they meet in Edmonton. I am taking the Oilers to win and the OVER.
