Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights Preview & Prediction

Just when you think some of the divisional and playoff races can’t get any closer, we see teams go on a run of form, good or bad, that tightens things up considerably. Hockey purists were not all fully on board when the NHL realigned the divisions and introduced the Wild Card into the playoff scenario, but you cannot deny that it has been a raging success. There really is nothing better than watching the playoff races in both conferences go all the way down to the final week of the regular season, which is what we are probably going to see again this year. The tightest race of all is going down in the Pacific Division in the West, with the top 5 teams there all in with a shot at making the playoffs and winning the division. The tightness of that race means that every divisional game is huge, which is why the Oilers heading into Vegas on Wednesday night is such a big deal. The Golden Knights have been on a good run of form of late and are in as a 1 ½ goal favorite for this one, with the goal total set at 6 ½.

Why bet on the Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers, like a bunch of teams in the Pacific Division, have spent some time at the top, but as it stands now, they are down in the #3 spot, although just 2 points back of the Vegas Golden Knights, who have the lead. The Oilers fell off the pace over the past couple of weeks, losing 3 of their last 5 and falling to 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. This will be their second game in consecutive nights, with this one coming after a disappointing 4-3 OT loss in Anaheim against a very poor Ducks team. It’s never easy to play back to back games, especially on the road and after playing extra minutes in the first outing. The Oilers have been good away from home, though, going 18-12-3 this season.

Why bet on the Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights have worked their way back to the top of the Pacific Division and have reached that point by plating some fantastic hockey of late. They come into this game on a 6-game winning streak that has seen them go 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Despite that great run, they only have a very modest 2-point lead at the top and are also just 6 points up on the Arizona Coyotes down in 5th. The Golden Knights have made the most of their time at home, winning each of the last 5 games in their own building, while putting together a 19-10-4 record at T-Mobile Arena. In their last 7 games against Western Conference foes, the Golden Knights have seen the OVER hit 5 times.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I am more than a little concerned about the Oilers playing road games in back to back night, which is why I think Vegas will edge this one. I really like the OVER here, too.
