The New York Yankees‘ Aaron Judge and Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Cody Bellinger were named Al and NL Rookie of the Year today. Judge became the first New York Yankees player to receive the award since Derek Jeter in 1996. Bellinger received more votes than NL peers Josh Bell of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Paul DeJong of the St. Louis Cardinals. Odds to Win 2018 World Series (November 14, 2017).
Judge and Bellinger won the rookie awards after spending a large part of the season breaking home run records.
Judge broke Mark McGwire‘s 1987 rookie record for home runs with 52 and Ted Williams‘ 1939 rookie mark for walks, with 127. Bellinger hit 39 home runs to set a new rookie record in the NL.
Judge broke the Yankees record for home runs in a season by a rookie before the All-Star break, on July 7. Bellinger became the quickest in major league history to six career multihomer games … in June.
The contributions of rookie Judge and Bellinger have also contributed to the team’s odds to be successful in 2018. Both the Yankees and the Dodgers are at or near the top of most Vegas and Offshore Sportsbook MLB futures to earn next year’s World Series title.
