Portland Trail Blazers vs New Orleans Pelicans

A duel between the fifth and eight best teams of the Western Conference takes place today, when the New Orleans Pelicans (20-20), are hosting the Portland Trail Blazers (22-19), with both teams looking to bounce back after being defeated in their latest matchups.

Date/Time:  01-12-2018, 20:00 EDT

Spread: New Orleans Pelicans -2.5

Total: +215.5

Pelicans have a 20-20 record (20-19-1 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 8th place of the West. They have lost four of their last six matches and in their last game they lost on the road against the Grizzlies with a 102-105 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by DeMarcus Cousins with 25.8 ppg, adding 5 assists and a team high 12.4 rebounds per game. He is followed by Anthony Davis with 25.8 ppg and 10.3 rebounds.

Blazers have a 22-19 record (19-18-4 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 5thplace of the West. In their last game they saw a three-game winning streak getting snapped by losing on the road against the Rockets with a 112-121 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Damian Lillard with 25 ppg, adding 4.9 rebounds and a team high 6.4 assists per game. He is followed by CJ McCollum with 21.6 ppg, while Jusuf Nurkic adds 14.6 ppg and a team high 8 rebounds per game.

In their two previous meetings earlier this season, each team managed to win once (Blazers by 10 and Pelicans by 7). Pelicans are 10-9 at home so far this season, while Blazers are 12-9 on the road. Pelicans are better offensively, scoring 110.6 ppg to Blazers’ 103.5, while Blazers are better defensively, allowing 102.4 ppg to Pelicans’ second-worse of 110.8. Pelicans have a better field goal percentage, shooting with a second-best 48.9% to Blazers’ 45%, while both teams have almost the same 3-point percentage (37.5% and 37.3%). Blazers are better in rebounding, grabbing 44.6 to Pelicans’ 42.5, while Pelicans are superior in assists made, with a second-best of 26.4 to Blazers’ league-low of 18.8. Blazers are better in turnovers committed (14.5 to 16). Pelicans are coming off an embarrassing loss and Vegas odds give them a -2.5 spread but don’t expect them to beat the odds as they have been mediocre at home throughout the season.
