A battle between the third and the seventh best teams of the Western Conference takes place tonight, when the Portland Trail Blazers (20-18), are hosting the San Antonio Spurs (27-13), with both teams unable to find a rhythm in the past couple of weeks and looking to turn their latest victories into a streak.
Date/Time: 01-07-2018, 21:00 EDT
Spread: Portland Trail Blazers -2
Blazers have a 20-18 record (18-17-3 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 7thplace of the West. They have won two of their last three matches and in their last game they won at home against the Hawks with a 110-89 score, beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Damian Lillard with 24.9 ppg, adding 4.8 rebounds and a team high 6.3 assists per game. He is followed by CJ McCollum with 21.2 ppg, while Jusuf Nurkic adds 14.5 ppg and a team high 7.9 rebounds per game.
Spurs have a 27-13 record (20-18-1 against the spread) so far this season and are currently sit on the third place of the West. They have won two of their last three matches and in their last game they won at home against the Suns with a 103-89 score, beating the odds. They are led in scoring by LaMarcus Aldridge with 22.2 ppg, adding a team high 8.4 rebounds per game. He is followed Kawhi Leonard with 15.9 ppg and 4.2 rebounds.
In their latest meeting earlier this season, Spurs won on the road with a 91-93 score. Blazers are 9-10 at home so far this season, while Spurs are 9-11 on the road. Blazers are better offensively, scoring 102.7 ppg to Spurs’ 101.3, while Spurs have the second-best defense in the league, allowing 98 ppg to Blazers’ 101.6. Spurs have a better field goal percentage, shooting with 45.7% to Blazers’ 44.6%, while Blazers have a better 3-point percentage, shooting with 37.3% to Spurs’ 36.1%. Spurs are better in assists made, with 21.8 to Blazers’ league-low of 18.8 and in turnovers committed (14 to 14.7), while Blazers are better in rebounding, grabbing 45 to Spurs’ 44.6. Spurs have rested some of their key players in the previous game and Vegas odds give Blazers a -2 spread but don’t expect them to beat the odds as Spurs will get away with the road win.
