It’s top-meets-bottom in Group F on Wednesday, when group leaders Manchester City will play host to Shakhtar Donetsk. Manchester City won in Russia and are now leading the group that also features Lyon and Hoffenheim who have 5 and 2 points respectively. Shakhtar Donetsk are sitting at the bottom with 2, and that will probably remain after this match.

Date/Time: 11-7-2018, 16:00 EDT

Spread: Manchester City -2.5

Total: 3.5 Goals

Manchester City (2-1-0) suffered quite the shock in the opener against Lyon, as they lost by 2-1 at home. They didn’t have an easy job either in Germany against Hoffenheim but escaped with all three points after a 2-1 win. In their last match they blew up Shakhtar Donetsk by 3-0 in Ukraine and are now leading the group with 6 points. That loss against Lyon means that Manchester City have lost each of their last three European matches at home. They had won seven of their previous eight home European matches before losing to Basel in the round of 16. They then went down to Liverpool in the quarter-finals and Lyon on matchday one. Despite their two wins so far, City have won only three of their last eight European matches, home and away (3-5-0). Manchester City’s record at home to Ukrainian clubs is stands at 2-0-1 with City keeping three clean sheets.

On the other hand, Shakhtar Donetsk (0-1-2) did not have it easy so far in the Champions League. They had to come back twice in the opener in order to take a point from the 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim. But after that they took a two-goal lead against Lyon on the road to eventually split the points in another 2-2 draw. But in their last match they suffered a tough 3-0 loss at home against Manchester City and are now sitting at the bottom of the group. Shakhtar lost three of their four away games last season. They had won their previous five away games, all in the Europa League. Shakhtar have lost on six of their seven trips to England. In those six defeats they scored six goals and conceded 16, including a 1-5 loss at Arsenal in 2010/11.

The two teams also met in the Group Stage last season, where they exchanged home wins. Manchester City won by 0-2 in this venue before falling by 1-2 in Russia. But this time the Russians have a couple of really important absences due to injuries.

Manchester City will have a clean path at three points here, as this is theoretically their easiest match out of the three remaining. Shakhtar Donetsk might score once against the hosts here, so I will take the Over 3.5 Goals. Manchester City are even capable of scoring as many on their own.
