Since this is the weekend of derbies around the world, France has one and it’s pretty big. Monaco are having a horrible season so far and they just can’t catch a break. Besides their troubles on the pitch, they now have to worry about the club’s owner getting arrested. To make matters worse, they have a massive match coming their way on Sunday, when they will play host to the mighty Paris Saint Germain.

Date/Time: 11-11-2018, 16:00 EDT

Spread: Monaco +2

Total: 3.5 Goals

Monaco (1-7-4) heard the news that the club’s owner had been arrested just hours prior to their Champions League match against Club Brugge. They needed at least a draw from that match in order to have chances to play in the Europa League but met a massive loss. They lost by a harsh 4-0 at home and proved yet again that they are in some really deep trouble right now. Last week they suffered a really frustrating 0-1 loss on the road against newcomers Reims. Monaco are now win-less in their last 15 matches in all competitions (0-10-5) and have lost seven of their last nine. They are in really big trouble in the league as they are currently sitting at the penultimate spot of the league table with 7 points, four below the red line. Their home record has been a total mess (0-5-3) so far, where they have failed to keep a single clean sheets.

Paris Saint Germain (12-0-0) have been spectacular, amazing and undefeated so far in the Ligue 1, having actually won all 12 matches so far. Last week they were pretty solid in their home match against Lille, where they had already scored both goals before conceding for the final 1-2. Paris Saint Germain had a tough time against Napoli mid-week in the Champions League, where they played for a 1-1 draw and are now sitting 3rd in their group. When it comes to the Ligue 1, Paris Saint Germain are of course sitting at the top of the league table with 36 points, featuring both the best offense (41) and the best defense in the league (7). They have won all five away matches for the league, and scored at least twice in all matches while keeping two clean sheets in the process. But they have a loss and a draw in their away matches in the Champions League this season, with both matches featuring goals from both sides.

Paris Saint Germain have dominated this match-up in recent years, where the two teams have played a ton of matches in four different competitions. They are undefeated in eight matches in the past two seasons (7-0-1) and have won each of the last six. They have also been great in this venue in the past decade, losing just twice in 11 matches (5-2-4) and winning each of the last three.

Logic dictates that we go with Paris Saint Germain here, but I expect Monaco to react with a win sooner or later. This is a great opportunity to capitalize on some high odds with either the home win (+935) or the draw (+619) here. For some safer option I would suggest a nice +2 spread for Monaco.
