The Vancouver Whitecaps have been really strong over the past three weeks, and are coming off a nice undefeated streak. They will look to extend that streak when they will host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. The Red Bulls have also been in really good form lately, having lost just once in over a month.

The Vancouver Whitecaps (9-9-6) are coming off what was easily a lucky 2-1 win on the road against Portland. They took the lead at the 14th minute with Kamara and were leading by two by the 43rd. But their opponents missed a penalty kick at the 41st. The Timbers eventually scored a goal from the penalty spot at the 71st minute, but Vancouver held on to the result. They are now undefeated in their last five (3-0-2), but have kept just a single clean sheet in that span. They still sitting at the 7th spot of the Western Conference with 33 points, two behind the playoffs. Vancouver have also been quite solid as hosts (5-2-4), having lost just once in the past four months.
The New York Red Bulls (15-6-2) escaped Chicago with all three points last week in an unattractive match. The two teams created just a few scoring chances, but it was Bradley Wright-Phillips who scored the only goal at the 55th minute. That was the second consecutive win for the Red Bulls, and fifth in their last six matches. They are still sitting at the 2nd spot of the Eastern Conference with 47 points, just as many as New York City FC. The Red Bulls also have the second best away record in the Conference (6-4-1), having won three of their last four. Oddly enough, all three matches ended at 1-0.
The New York Red Bulls have won each of the last two against Vancouver, one at home and one on the road. However, Vancouver had won the previous three and actually have the upper hand in this match-up (3-2-3). Results in this venue have been pretty balanced though (1-1-2).
There is one crucial parameter in this match, with the Whitecaps playing the second leg of the Canadian Championship finals on Wednesday night. The players will surely be tired enough to play another competitive match just three days later, so the Red Bulls have an extra edge here. But I will take the safer option of the Under 2.5 Goals here.
MLS Vancouver Whitecaps vs New York Red Bulls Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals (-105)
