Manchester United have struggled really hard in the start of the new season, and things are starting to get weird. It’s not like they’ve had a tough schedule or anything, just that the team looks uninspired right now. They will now have a much harder task on Monday, when they will play host to Tottenham. Tottenham have not been at top form yet, but have won both their matches so far.

Manchester United (1-1-0) looked quite tired and without vision in the season opener against Leicester, but won by 2-1. They could easily have lost that match, as their opponents were much better overall. Manchester United entered their second match looking to double their wins, but they were stunned. Hosting side Brighton made a great start in the match, scoring back-to-back goals to take an early lead (25th and 27th). Manchester United were quite numb in that match, but Lukaku scored at the 34th minute. The first half ended with Brighton scoring another goal, from the penalty spot. Manchester United tried to make a comeback in that match but only managed to score a consolation goal moments before the final whistle, for the final 2-3 loss.
On the other hand, Tottenham (2-0-0) made a shaky start in the season, but they ended up winning. They did struggle a bit on the road against Newcastle but scored twice in the first half to eventually win by 2-1. Tottenham were much more comfortable in their second match, at home against Fulham. They were so much better throughout the whole match, but saw their opponents pull even at the 52nd minute. Even so, Tottenham scored twice in a three-minute span to eventually record a nice and solid 1-3 win. They are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Premier League with 6 points, having scored 5 goals against 2 conceded.
The two teams exchanged clean sheet home wins last season, before a 1-2 Manchester United win at home for the FA Cup. They have had the upper hand in this match-up in the past three years (5-3-0). Manchester United have also been tremendous as hosts against Tottenham over the past two decades (20-2-3).
Tottenham have been slightly better so far in the season, but they have also failed to keep a single clean sheet. Just like Manchester United. With both teams still not at 100% after the World Cup, I would expect to see goals fly once again. I can’t back the home team here, who have been slightly worse so far.
