Odds to Win Super Bowl LIV

The National Football League deadline to designate 2019 franchise player tags is today, Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 4 p.m. ET. This offseason, six teams used the franchise tag to hold top players off the open market, before the close of business.  Odds to Win Super Bowl LIV: Franchise Tag Deadline.

A quick outline of the franchise player designation and the implications.  As a rule each NFL organization can choose one of its own prospective free-agent players per season/year as its franchise player. And by doing such protects the franchise from losing that player via the FA market. The tag locks in that specific player for one year at a fully guaranteed salary roughly equal to the average of the top five salaries at his position or 120 percent of the players previous year’s salary, whichever situation is higher.

2019 NFL Franchise Tags
  • Dee Ford, OLB, Kansas City Chiefs
  • DeMarcus Lawrence, DE, Dallas Cowboys
  • Frank Clark, DE, Seattle Seahawks
  • Grady Jarrett, DT, Atlanta Falcons
  • Jadeveon Clowney, OLB, Houston Texans
  • Robbie Gould, K, San Francisco 49ers

In addition the aforementioned teams have until July 15 to work out long-term deals with the tagged player personnel. If the two parties fail to come to a long term deal they are prohibited from negotiating with them again until after the 2019 season.

Furthermore the franchise-tag deadline is typically a marker for the Vegas and Offshore Sportsbooks calendars when assigning NFL Future Odds. Consequently in the next updated Odds to Win SB LIV and AFC/NFC Championships the bookmakers can and will likely have team odds adjustments.

As a result the latest update from the Las Vegas SuperBook on Odds to Win Super Bowl LIV were published before the 2019 franchise tag deadline was official.
