Teams 5 through 12 in each conference will participate in a play-in round, while the top-four teams in each league will have a separate round-robin contest to determine their seeding in the first round. In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers would receive the free pass through the opening round. In the Western Conference, the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Las Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars would receive the byes.

Caesars Sports Book has just released their updated Super Bowl 55 odds and the Kansas City Chiefs remain the 4-to-1 favorites to repeat as champs, followed by Baltimore (+700) and San Francisco (+800). The Tampa Bay Bucs have moved to 12-to-1 after signing Tom Brady. With Brady no longer under center, New England has dropped from 14-to-1 to 25-to-1. Other notables include: Dallas at 13-to-1; Green Bay at 16-to-1; and Philadelphia at 20-to-1.
