Bucks vs Nets Game 3 Betting Preview
The Gold Sheet offers their NBA betting preview for Thursday night’s Eastern Conference playoff showdown between the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. After an epic failure in Game 2, a 125-86 loss in Brooklyn, Milwaukee is 0-2 in the series and another loss in this one would just about seal the Bucks’ fate.

Lest anyone forget, teams that take a 3-0 lead are 142-0 in the NBA playoffs, and Milwaukee has had major problems getting past this round. Since Giannis Antetokounmpo was drafted nine seasons ago, the Bucks have advanced to just one conference final (losing four-straight after taking a 2-0 lead on the Raptors in 2018-19). In fact, Milwaukee hasn’t won its conference and advanced to the NBA Finals since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s final season with the club in 1973-74. Needless to say, this has been a talking point in the Milwaukee Bucks’ locker room. So what do we expect is going to happen?
Well, have to respect fact that Brooklyn has won and covered 11 of its last 12 games despite fighting through injuries, and that the Nets have a 48-19 SU record since acquiring James Harden from Houston back in mid-January, whether they have him available or not. Most likely, Harden will miss at least a few more games with a hamstring injury, as will Jeff Green, who missed the last five. The Nets lead the league in offensive efficiency during the playoffs, but remember Harden played in all but the most recent of the Net postseason games. He scored 23 ppg and led the team in FG percentage and assists in his 6 games on the floor. The Nets are a bit thin on players who can be counted on for double digits. Obviously Durant and Irving will combine for 50 to 60 points on an average night, but Joe Harris is the only other player for Brooklyn scoring more than 7 per game in the postseason. Blake Griffin has scored just 7 ppg, although his rebounding and defense has been a positive.

Meanwhile, let’s examine Milwaukee’s credentials, as the Bucks are 12-4 in their last 16, including a pair of victories over this Brooklyn team on May 2 and 4, when the Greek Freak burned the Nets for 85 points, and Milwaukee is the best-rebounding team in the playoffs and indeed in the league this season. The Bucks, who also lead the playoffs in defensive efficiency, are completely healthy and have a half-dozen players scoring in double-digits. The Nets are 33-8 SU at home this season, but are a very human 21-17 on the road, and recall that Milwaukee managed a pair of recent wins over the Nets at the FiServ Forum.
This game comes out about the same as the TGS Ratings, if you allow the proper points for Harden’s absence, so feel the oddsmaker has made a good number. Still, we are drawn to the emotional edge possibly shifting to a Buck side that’s down 0-2 and away from HC Steve Nash’s Nets, who are likely tempted to look ahead to a match with the winner of the Sixer-Hawk series. Humiliation motivation and crowd support also point us to the Bucks, who shouldn’t just fold their tents and to go gently into that good night. Play Milwaukee.
