Draw specialists Udinese are hosted by Verona on Saturday in a huge relegation battle in the Serie A, as both teams are sitting on 28 points, as many as Epoli below them, and all 3 teams are sitting just 1 point above Frosinone and 2 points above Sassuolo, so this is a bonafide relegation battle.
Udinese are in love with the Draws this season, with more than half of their matches ending in Draws (W4 D16 L11), while on the road they have a W3 D7 L5 record, again with almost half of their away matches ending in Draws. Verona have the 4th most Draws this season (W6 D10 L16), while at home they have a W4 D5 L6 record.
The reverse fixture was a 3-3 draw, and these two have now played for 5 Draws in L/9 matches, so the logic is this: this is a relegation battle, and the other relegation candidate (Empoli) is hosting Napoli a few hours earlier. I think this will be a low scoring series all around. Outside of the Canes last game (where they didnt start anyone), they have not allowed more than 2 goals 5 straight games and 7 of their last 8. They have held opponents to 0 goals 3 times in their last 8 and I think we see them hold the Islanders to 1 or less Saturday. The Islanders during their outstanding run, found some great D and goaltending and outside of their last game (which again didnt count), they haled teams to 2 or less goals 7 of their last 8 games. Both these teams have sold D and good goaltending and more importantly both want to play to the Under. I think we see a 3-1, 3-2 type of a hockey game here.

The Lakers did a good job to get here and are playing well. However, winning at Denver is an entirely different matter than winning at New Orleans. The Nuggets swept the Lakers in the regular season. Every victory came by at least eight points. The Nuggets also swept LA in the playoffs last season. The Lakers are only 8-18-1 ATS their last 27, after winning their previous three games. I expect their struggles against the Nuggets to continue in Game 1. *good at -7 or better

Bandwagon is filling up fast but see plenty of reasons to be on board. Indiana dominated season series against Milwaukee and had victories early on when Bucks were highly motivated. Current state of each side has evolved to point where Pacers appear to be more trustworthy squad especially now that Giannis’ injury could extend beyond start of the series. Neither team attracted to playing defense so in shootout style matchup…like high octane Indy’s chances. Pacers scored 122+ in all five meetings and averaged 128.8 ppg. Bucks went 1-4 in the season series with Giannis accounting for 211 points (42.2 average) in the five games (had 54 & 64 in two of them). That production is basically impossible to duplicate and I was the best matchup Milwaukee had against Indiana. Mid-season acquisition of PF Pascal Siakim dome specifically for this time of season where he has plenty of positive experience. Not sure Milwaukee can come up enough consistent defense, scoring or rebounding in order to outscore this particular team. Home floor advantage resulted in 1-1 stalemate so Pacers know they can win here. Cheap price with team that’s in better shape right now.

Supporting the Minnesota side at what is an attractive series price. Timberwolves home floor advantage, interior size edge, physical defensive style all qualify as favorable components in this matchup. Not sold on narrative that Timberwolves lack playoff experience especially when they’re anchored by playoff veterans at PG Mike Conley Jr. & C Rudy Gobert plus rotation PF Kyle Anderson who’s played in 51 post season games. Phoenix star power certainly a difficult out but T-Wolves capable of same firepower considering in games when Conley Jr. / Anthony Edwards / Karl Anthony-Towns & Gobert are on the floor together the team averages 120.6 points per 100 possessions. That number would’ve ranked #3 in the NBA over the course of 82 games. With KAT now back for a few games the early season continuity is again in place. Suns 3-0 mark vs Minnesota this season accomplished in part by holding Edwards to just 14.3 ppg (lowest vs any Western Conference team) and the Wolves to just 102.7 ppg. Phoenix also held all other Timberwolves to a combined 29.6% from three point range. Important that the T-Wolves improve all three of those numbers in this series. In the end choice is can Phoenix shoot well enough to win 4 times or will Minnesota’s size and physical-defensive style grind them down as the series goes on. Prefer the latter and the underdog price sweetens the incentive.

3% Take Dallas to WIN the SERIES (#665)
There’s no comparison between these two teams in recent weeks. LA has an injured superstar in Kawhi Leonard, who’s been sitting on the sidelines in streetclothes since the calendar turned to April. He’s expected to play here, but we all know that when a high usage star returns to the lineup, teams often look out of sync on both ends of the court for extended stretches in his first game back. James Harden looks ancient of late. He shot 40% from the floor in March and 32% so far in April. That’s a duo who needs to be elite for LA to survive and advance in this series; right now, I’m not convinced either one is capable of performing at that level. And let’s be real – unless the Clips have a hidden ‘switch’ to flip, we can only expect what we’ve seen for the last three months – a largely mediocre basketball team.
Real quietly, waaaaay under the radar, the Dallas Mavericks defensive efficiency was #1 in the NBA over their last 15 games. Unlike the Clippers superstars, the Mavs star duo of Luke and Kyrie are both fully healthy. And unlike LA, Dallas has been clicking on all cylinders since the trading deadline, when the acquisition of PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford (and Dante Exum’s return from injury) completely transformed their potential trajectory; a team with nothing but upside moving forward here in the postseason.
