The first leg of this match-up was without a doubt one of the biggest surprises in this round. Liverpool and Bayern Munich played for a goal-less draw in England and the match-up is now reversed. The Bundesliga giants will now try to make home advantage count when they will host Liverpool. This looks like it will probably be a very similar match to the first leg.

Spread: Bayern Munich -0.25

Total: 2.75 Goals

Bayern Munich were not really active in the first leg in Liverpool but did get a nice result. They clearly went there trying to avoid the defeat and they did it. Their opponents really pressured them in the first half but Bayern Munich held out greatly. The second half was much more balanced but neither team was able to score. Bayern Munich have a solid W11 L3 record in the round of 16, winning each of the last seven. They have won each of their last four home matches against Premier League clubs. Their record in two-legged ties against Premier League sides stands at W10 L5, winning each of the last five.

On the other hand, Liverpool fought really hard in the first leg, especially in the first half. They created a solid 11 scoring chances in the first half but had just a single shot on target. They were not very good in the second half and should feel lucky with the outcome. This is Liverpool’s first presence in this stage of the competition in nine years (W5 L1). Liverpool have not lost in their last seven matches in this round (5-0-2) conceding no goals. They have been excellent in two-legged ties against German sides though (W14 L2), winning each of the last four. Moreover, they are undefeated in their last four matches on German soil (2-0-2) with their overall record of 3-5-9.

This will be the first match between the two sides in almost two decades. Liverpool won when the two teams met in the semi-finals of the 1980/81 edition after a goal-less draw in Anfield and a 1-1 draw in this venue.

Both teams are really offensive but they will probably both be really careful here. I will go with the Under 2.75 Goals knowing well enough that this can explode. But I expect both teams to be really careful here, with the 1-1 draw not being out of the question.
