There is a massive clash in the round of 16 of the Champions League, as Liverpool will host Bayern Munich. The Premier League powerhouse have been in mediocre form in the past weeks and will have a crucial absence. Bayern Munich will also have a few key absences here as well but have been in better form.

Liverpool needed a win in the final match against Napoli in order to qualify. And they did it, finishing with a 3-3-0 record. This will be the seventh two-legged tie at this stage for Liverpool, having won the previous six (W5 L1). Liverpool are currently on a 19-match undefeated run in European matches at home (14-0-5). And they have won each of the last five here. This season they have been really strong at home, losing just one of their 17 matches in all competitions (14-1-2). Moreover, they have kept 10 clean sheets at home but will be missing key defender Van Dijk here. The Reds have won their last six home matches against German sides, and have an overall record of 14-1-2. They have also won each of the last three against Bundesliga sides and are undefeated in the last eight (6-0-2).

Bayern Munich have been consistent participants in this stage of the Champions League. They are in this round for the 15th time, having won 11 times and having lost just three. They have been really strong on the offensive end at this round, scoring an average of 4.43 goals in their last seven (31 total). This season in the Bundesliga they have scored in all but one of their away matches. But their defense is not what it used to, as they have conceded at least twice in each of their last three. Bayern Munich have scored 15 goals in their last three matches against Premier League opposition. Their overall record against English clubs in two-legged ties stands at W10 L5, winning each of the last five.

The two teams last met in the European Super Cup final in 2001, where Liverpool won by 2-3. It is strange for two of the world’s biggest clubs to not have met in over two decades. The overall record between the two sides stands at 2-2-1 in favor of Liverpool.

These are two of the best teams in the world right now, and this is surely going to be a really huge match. Liverpool are missing key man Virgil Van Dijk in the defense and will surely struggle against the Germans. Bayern Munich will also be missing some key players and I will gladly take the Over 3 Goals here.
