PSG played a really smart and effective match against Manchester United in the first leg. The first half was nothing special, but PSG did great to cut off the passing lanes. They were much better in the second half, taking the lead at the 53rd minute and doubling that just seven minutes later. The final 2-0 means that they will have to lose by the same score, or suffer any loss by a two-goal margin in order to be eliminated. PSG are in this stage for the seventh consecutive time but have not made it to the semi-finals since 1994/95. The last two seasons they lost in this very stage, with their overall record standing at W4 L2. PSG have won half of their six two-legged knockout ties against Premier League sides. But they have won just one of their last six matches against English sides (1-2-3).
On the other hand, Manchester United were pretty bad in the first leg. Their opponents destroyed their creative game and United were unable to operate. They got careless when their opponents took a two-goal lead and resulted to Paul Pogba being sent off. He is going to miss this match, and there are also nine more players who are between questionable and unavailable. Manchester United participate in the round of 16 for the 11th time (W6 L4), winning six of their last eight. Manchester United have won each of their last three against French sides and are undefeated in their last four trips to France (2-0-2). The Red Devils have been excellent on the road lately, winning each of their last eight matches in all competitions.
PSG have been firing in all cylinders lately, especially at home. They have scored at least three goals in four of their last five home matches in all competitions. Nine of a total of 16 goals in that span were scored beyond the hour mark.
Manchester United will really have to outdo themselves in this match in order to qualify. Their injury concerns and the suspension to Paul Pogba are certainly things that will hold them back. PSG are tremendous at home and will have to really mess up in order to not qualify. Manchester United will have to draw first blood here and this can easily blow up to a lot of goals.
