The Bulldogs and Tigers take the hardwood on Thursday night for a league event. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET at Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, California. WCC Basketball Free Pick: Gonzaga at Pacific.

The No #11 ranked Zags (-13, 147) are no longer considered a mid-major. However, they do trail one of the top ranked clubs that reside outside of the Power-5, in Saint Mary’s. The Bulldogs are one game behind the Gaels in league play and tonight’s event is a dangerous contest best described as a “look ahead” with the rematch against Saint Mary’s set for Saturday.

Gonzaga has been successful against Pacific in 11 straight games. The last meeting between the two West Coast Conference foes was in December when the ‘Dogs putdown the Tigers by a 81-48 margin. The Bulldogs have been everything but dominant this season. Across the last three conference affairs, contests they have won, their margin of victory has been less than ten points. Gonzaga’s starting five all average double-digits per game making them a tough matchup for the offensively challenged Tigers.

Pacific is led by guards Miles Reynolds and Roberto Gallinat. The backcourt duo combine to average 26 points per game. Sophomore forward Jahlil Tripp is the only other Tiger averaging double-figure points (10.3) but is the team’s best all around player leading the squad in both rebounding (7.8) and assists (4.1).

As displayed in the first matchup between these two league foes Gonzaga has a large number of offensive weapons compared to that of Pacific. The Tigers have scored 70-point or more in just one of their last five games. With that said this is an evolving Pacific troupe. The team has already exceeded their win total from last year’s 11-22 campaign and is on pace to have a winning record at season’s end for the first time in five years.

The oddsmakers public shade has inflated the Zags game spreads this season resulting in an 0-7 against the spread mark over their last 7 league events.

Conversely the Tigers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games on their home floor and are a stellar 15-3 against the number in their last 18 conference tilts.

After taking down the Tigers by 30-plus points in their first matchup and with St Mary’s on deck it is a tough task to ask Gonzaga to cover the big number tonight on the road.
